last winter it was 10 below zero and the driver door got jammed. instead of rolling down the window to try the handle on the outside, my girlfriend yanked on the handle hard and it came off in her hand.:brickwall this happened to the passenger side one before, so we went to a local place and were charged $95 to fix it. this time i bought the handle from the dealership ($25) and decided to do it on my own. getting the old handle assembly out was easy enough, but it seems impossible to get the rods in the right place on the new one. its a 97 with full doors. do i have to take the whole door panel off, or is there some trick to it i'm missing? we've been using the rods inside the door to open it, but you have to take off gloves to do it.
Its a snap to remove the door panel. (pun intended)
Remove the little clip on the window crank handle (very small screwdriver works)
Remove the 2 screws for the grab handle.
Remove the 3? screws at the edges of the panel.
Pry the panel outward, around the edges pop the snaps that hold it in place. (wrap tape around a small flat bar to use to pry, it helps)
When it's all loose starting at the rear edge, lift it UP. When it's up off the door edge, it will be stuck at the door hinge end under the little triangle at the front corner of the windwow - so slide the panel away from the traingle.
It's off.
