Increase in tire size without BL?

I have a 4" Pro Comp suspension lift on my '04 Rubi, and am running 305/70/r16 tires. From what I have read, the rule of thumb is that 33" x 12.50" should be used with a 4" lift. Converted to standard, my current tires are 32.8" x 12", a bit smaller than what my Jeep can handle with the lift.

From looking at my Jeep, it *appears* that I could accommodate slightly bigger set of tires.

Staying with metric sizes, the next size up is 315/75/r16. That works out to 34.6" x 12.4".

Just curious if anyone has successfully run this size on a Rubi with a 4" lift? I certainly don't want to bash up my fenders the first time I take it off road, but I would love to have that empty space currently in my wheel wells filled by a meatier tire if possible!! Since the Rubi sits higher than other Wranlger models out of the box, does a Rubi with a 4" lift have a better chance of running basically 34.5's instead of the "standard" 33's that would go along with a 4" lift?

I'd like to stay away from a body lift if at all possible. Ideally, I'd like to get some 315/75/r16 tires on my Jeep as is, then sell the 305/70/r16's. With a body lift, I assume that I'd lose the smooth ride that I currently have, and at minimum, need to make adjustments to the gear shifter since 2, 4, & R would likely by unusable with a BL.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Your probably going to rub with a 4 inch suspension lift and that tire size. To run them I would do a 1.25 inch body lift. You will not loose ride quality with a body lift. You might have to slightly modify your shifter boot or dremel a little sheet metal out around the shifter but you should be good to shift after that.

if you dont want to use a bodylift like i did, then dont. if you eventaully want to go to 35" tires, i recomend the RE 4.5" kit, its what i have. no rub at full flex with it, and it wont look weird with 33" tires

Since you have experience with a BL, would you do it all over again? I've always stuck with suspension lifts, as I used to hear nothing but bad things about BL's. Of course, that was 15 years ago, and I'm sure BL's have moved forward as have suspension lifts.

I just have some reservations about BL's...

- Safety. Does a BL hurt the structural integrity of the vehicle, as long as you stay within 1.25"?

- Ride Quality. jmreagan mentioned that I wouldn't lose ride quality. Since I would stay within 1.25" of BL, I hope that's small enough to not affect my ride quality. I still want to be able to drive the Jeep on the highway here and there as well as the trails.

- Appearance. I'm afraid of odd looking gaps between the body and bumper / nerf bars and bumper, etc... Did you experience any of these problems?

If a BL of about 1.25" isn't going to cause a lot of problems (other than modifications to the shifter / boot, which is expected), then I'll certainly give it some thought. Thanks for the help, guys.
