Because I found a great deal.. So I ordered superwinch epi9.0 with the synthetic rope...
But anyway... What's a good winch plate for a stock bumper?? I really like the Blue torch fab one but it says it's made for the BTF bumper.. Anyone recommend one?
Just my opinion, but I think Warn winch plates are overpriced along with their bumpers. Don't get me wrong, I love Warn stuff and especially their winches. I would go with a Rokmen winch plate. Solid product and great price.
Another option is to check around Craigslist or something to see if someone is selling a winch bumper. Kill two birds with one stone. I got lucky and picked up an ARB front bumper for pennies
i have it and i think it is 1/4in thick, made specifically for the stock bumper and hooks. i would never buy an expensive winch plate when you can buy something simple like that.
I went with the Rough Country. Low price and beefier than the other cheapo plates. IMO, the Warn was too pricey, and if you are not going to mount one of their winch/grill guards, you are stuck with the empty holes on their giant fairlead mount---if that kind of stuff bugs you!!
Awesome price on the winch. I have the epi9.0 with steel cable, it seems to be very well built. I also have the rokmen plate and it is extremely stout, works with aftermarket 10k hooks and doesn't decrease approach angle hardly at all.
The warn style mount is elevated so the winch doesn't stick out so far and has clearance on the factory sway bar. If you search for gorilla winch mount they have a clone that may or may not be identical...looks like it. You might also find it under promark offroad.
The Harbor Freight plate is inexpensive, but not cheap. Works fine with stock bumper. A little work with the cut-off wheel makes it look a little better, but not necessary.
It could be just me the the Harbor Freight universal plate is a PIA - I had it and was trying to figure out how to make it work. It looked to me you would have to both drill new holes and cut part of the plate off. I questioned the how strong it would be after I drilled it. I returned it and ended up with the plain smittybuilt one for about $10 more and it bolted right up and comes with new hardware. I have been very happy with it and have had no problems.
Its too bad HF doesn't sell the TJ specific plate anymore.
I have the Harbor Freight universal winch plate, i ended up having to drill new holes which was scary but i then bolted steel plates underneath and over top of the new holes to be like giant washers
