Hey... if it wasn't Khaki, it wouldn't look so clean all the time.

Today was a day to get a few things done on the Jeep but before that I had to fix the mirror on my truck.. While driving home this winter some idiot driving way to fast didn't want to get over and drive on his side of the road. They instead decided to just drive down the middle of the road and force anyone they met to nearly drive into the ditch (snow bank...) Well he was so far over that I was part way into the ditch and our mirrors still hit each others. Of course he didn't stop and I wasn't about to try and chase him down on icy roads. Somehow the mirror glass didn't break but the plastic shell did. The Stealer ship wanted about $350 to replace. I bought a new Mirror off ebay and installed it myself for about $100.

Was not difficult at all and took all of about 15 minutes. How can the dealerships mark up their labor so much?

Once I had that done it was on to Jeep things. I have always wanted to install a hand throttle - having a stick, I have been in a few spots where it really would have been nice to have and wanted to put one in before Moab. The kits are not that expensive at around $40 shipped but there didn't look like much to the kit so I Just decided to make my own. I bought a nice bicycle gear shifter off ebay for $8.50 shipped. I then bought about 4' of cable housing and ends from my local bike shop for about $4.00. Everything else came out of my junk drawer. I think it looks great (as good or better than the kit) and it works perfectly all for under $13.00.

My Jeep originally had crappy 4" short arm lift on it. Whoever installed that lift must have had some issues with the stick shift hitting something as they heated it up and changed its bend. The stick works great with my new lift as well but they never repainted the shaft afterward so it always looked bad. I spent a few minutes sanding off what remained of the powder coating and repainted it with Hammerite of course.

Here is the gear shifter and cable housing I bought.

Mounting the shifter on the gear shift shaft was pretty straight forward... just had to make sure it would not hit anything when up in 1st, 3rd or 5th. I ran the cable down through the boot, through a firewall plug and up on top of the engine along side the main throttle cable. The only tricky part was find a way to terminate the cable housing and attach the cable to the throttle control.

Here you can see the main throttle cable - there was an identical hole and attachment point that I assume is used for cruise control which my jeep doesn't have. It would have been nice to have those plastic brackets but who knows how much they would have cost.

Instead I used the same type of cable end that are used on bikes. I used a couple small washers and I had that part finished. Then I just used an old electrical terminal end I found to make the connection to the throttle control.

On the inside I just mounted the shift lever like most people I guess. I can have my palm on the top knob and pull the lever with my fingers. After some adjustment I started up the jeep to test out and could't be happier. Works great and is really smooth, nothing sticks at all and I look forward to trying out in Moab.

The mirror looks like a pretty easy swap. People really suck sometimes though.

The shifter looks great. You now have the Jeeper Cruise Control.

Bye Bye Wrangler Symbol... I have thought about doing that every so often. It looks really great.

It took me quite a while to see that....

Love the clean look the single jeep sticker makes, your jeep is down right SICK! I'm not big on stickers, the sport and wrangler missing clean it up nicely. Oh and sweet tj color btw. I strive to as classy as you some day

Nice mod. my friend! Seeing it done so easily, I'll have to do that myself soon. I love your detailed pics and write-ups. And I've been wanting to take off my Sport and Wrangler stickers too. They mess up the looks of the club stickers I have on mine. That's a nice and clean look now. I betcha people will comment!

I'm not an addict of any kind (drinking, drugs, etc.) except to Idaho Jeep's build thread! Damn you!

... I was just thinking...

When I fisrt bought my Jeep, I got a lot of comments about it. Guy's would look at it and almost drewl. But it seems like the more I do to it, the less I get that responce out of people... oh, some still do, just not as often I think, or perhapps I'm getting used to it. Duno which.

In any case, you sir, have managed to keep the clean, crisp, cool look and just amp it up. I bet you see those Doe-Eyed stares all the time...

Keep up the good work!

Seriously though, I hope you're having (and by the time you read this, HAD) a great time! Next year for SURE I'll be there.

I just read your posts about the windshield lights and highbeams. Nice job! While reading that section, I noticed this pic and how there's a red LED in the middle of the orange ones on your flares. Did you recently change this or have they always been that combination? No real purpose to asking, but just noticed and thought I'd comment that they look great with orange, red, orange.

And as mentioned before by others, seriously Jevon, that thing looks MEAN from the front! I'd pull over at night if you came towards me on a dark road!

This should make you laugh Jevon.

Does this look at all familiar? Remind you of anything?

A CBP off-road TJ that's an Idaho-Jeep wanna-be?

This jeep is much prettier in person than the photos portray. The attention to detail is top notch.

It was nice wheeling with ya at EJS Jevon.
