Great buildup... and thanks for the links. I had to comment that your rear bumper is sweet. Keep up the posts!

And yes, that is a great house you have. I'd love to design my own too someday but I'm not an architect.

Beautiful jeep, but I must say... that house is simply stunning. Lol. I come from a family of architects and remodeling contractors and I think I'm more interested in the house than the jeep now.

I assume you mean that you are an "Intern Architect" if you just graduated? Are you working in a firm yet? PA has a 3 year internship, yes?

Yes, I am familiar with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson's work. I don't have that book but his work is in several other books I do have. Great stuff - A little more contemporary than what a lot of my clients want to build. If you are interested, our website is: networkarch.com I am a principal in a modest sized firm and manage the McCall office.

And, yes I do have a 4" short arm suspension for sale.

Update

This last week I had some late meetings and could only spend a couple evenings in the garage so I was not able to accomplish much. I did however take care of the control arm frame mounts. Because I am going to run a long arm kit I needed to remove the lower arm frame mounts and decided to also remove the upper arm mounts while I was at it.

Like most people, I used a grinder to grind down the welds, a saws-all to cut the mount down the middle and then a BFH to work the halves back and forth until they come off. The lower arm mounts were fairly easy but the upper arm mounts were more difficult to get to - especially the front uppers.

Here is a before shot:

A shot after the mounts are cut off:

I used a grinder to take the welds down and then a flap wheel to smooth everything out. I plan on painting the entire frame with hammerite.

The scrap pile of frame mounts:

Last night I needed a brake from the grinder so I decided to focus on the Evap system and relocating it. Because I have extended wheel well corners I had to trim some of my tub wheel well. After trimming it was obvious that something needed to be done with the Evap system. I searched around and found information that indicated I could bypass the charcoal filter canister. With that in mind, figured I could maybe keep the system in the corner of the tub.

As you can see, that black canister sticks out into my wheel well:

With the cover plate off you can see the canister and evap system.

Take off a couple bolts and a nut, unplug the electrical connection and two fuel tank lines and pull it out.

I then removed the canister filter and trimmed down the mounting plate in the wheel well and the mounting plate that the evap system is attached to. I then drilled two holes in what was the top mount for the canister. I ran the hose through these holes which helped align and stabilize them. Using some 5/8" flexible fuel line, 4 hose clamps and two male-male fittings I connected an end to each existing hose and bypassed the canister.

After that I put the stock cover plate back on and was happy with the results.

I bought some black rubber sheet material to use for a wheel well liner on the front tube fenders, I plan on using some of that same material to fashion a liner for the back of each corner to prevent rock and mud from getting into these back corner areas. I am also going to paint the wheel wells black with hammerite paint.

Subscribed! Excellent buildup. look for something similar to come along more slowly ($10/hr lifeguard while in school) from me starting after the winter (I'm also plowing!)

Love the house, love the Jeep, and I'll be checking in regularly

Today I decided to focus on getting my axles ready for the re-gear, lockers, and trusses.

Working on these while on jack stands (and/or blocks of wood) was a little cumbersome so decided to copy a brilliant idea I saw on "BozoWise's" build thread http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/started-another-project-vehicle-423989/index31.html For about $15 I put together this little cart and it makes moving and rotating the axles while working on them a lot easier.

I started with the 44. My Long Arm kit will reuse the lower control arm axle mounts, coil spring bases and sway bar mounts but I needed to remove the upper control arm mounts, track bar mount and shock mounts. Here is the rear axle on my new axle cart.

After a few hours of cutting and grinding I had the brackets off. I then spent some more time with a wire brush attachment on my drill cleaning all the dirt and surface rust. I taped over the vent tube hole but that did not stop a nice diff fluid mess on my floor from happening when I turned the axle upside down.

I was able to test fit the TnT D44 truss - With the axle at 17* and truss at 0*, it fits perfect!

Well the day was half over and I still had a dirty axle to deal with so why go fishing huh?

During this build I plan on upgrading my front brakes to the VanCo. big brake system. Because of this I decided to remove the brake rotors & Calipers along with the shafts and knuckles. I have never touched disc brakes before on a vehicle so this was a new experience. I used stu-offroad.com to provide some how to info on the removal. Here is the 30 to start:

The removal of everything went fairly smoothly (impact wrench was helpful for the axle nut). Getting the knuckles off took some doing however. There is a small area meant for hammer blows but it would not take long to bang up the knuckles whacking away so I used a second BFH placing it on the dedicated spot and then hitting the sledge with the sledge. I was surprised how much encouragement was required but it did finally come loose. Now I can send these knuckles off to Van!

Once I had both sides finished I moved on to removing the upper control arm axle mounts. The one that is cast into the pumpkin took a while to cut off - wish I had a plasma cutter! Once I had both mounts cut off I again used the grinder and flap wheel to smooth things out. I also exposed the steel on the axle tubes where the truss would need to be welded on. After that I again used the wire brush on the drill to clean up the axle.

And again did a test fit on the TnT truss - another great fit at with the axle at 5* and the truss at 0*

I had considered swapping out the 30 for a 44 - but after some consideration decided to stick it out with the 30 for now. If need be I will upgrade the shafts.

Once the trusses are welded on I will be painting them with black hammerite paint.
