Almost every time I have bolt clearance problems on projects, I have solved them by replacing the hex bolt with a buttonhead allen bolt.(Looks like a stove bolt head but has an internal hex.) They are very low profile and can be ground off a bit more with no effects on strength or looks. My local hardware/lumber retailer has a great selection, including stainless and metric. If you can't find them at May or Lumbermans, come to Cascade and get them. Or let me know what you need and I'll pick them up and send them to you. I hope this helps.

BTW, the Jeep looks awful. You might as well just park it outside on a dark night with the keys and title in it. Wednesday night is best for me, so get as much fixed as you can before then, install all the accessories, top, etc. and push it out the door. PM me with your address and your worries will be over. Just think how happy the wife will be that you can start doing her honeydo projects instead of working on that nasty old Jeep. You should probably pay me just for the suggestion! (Just leave whatever you think is fair in the ashtray. Checks are OK but I prefer cash or bearer bonds.)

Mopar,

Good idea. I will have to try that.
We might have to get together sometime and do some local trails. I don't mind following a ZJ.

Not a lot of recent work - I am only getting about 5 or 6 hours a week on the Jeep right now. I did receive the new spacers from VanCo for the brake kit. So I installed those and think I am finally completely done with that.

I took off my upper front control arms and did a little grinding so they would not bind on the front truss any longer.

I took some measurements front and rear for shocks so I can finally get those ordered.

I started the wiring process for my LEDs. I was able to determine how to wire everything. For some reason I thought it would be difficult and that they would not work like the OEM lighting. But the wiring is really simple and the LEDs work the same as the OEM lights (running lights & turn signals are on and blink like the OEM lights). The actual install will take a while - hope to get further on that next week.

I noticed that I forgot to add a photo of the TnT outboard shock kit installed.

Sounds like a good plan, assuming it ever moves under it's own power and makes it out of the garage.
I might get some lift in mine in the spring and then I could make it a bit further up the trail. Until that happens, following me would be boring when it started getting hairy... however, I would have no qualms about parking mine and riding shotgun in yours at that point.

The stinger/bumper from Overkill. How long ago did you order it and when do you expect it? I have been searching forever for the right look and functionality for a bumper with a large stinger on it... and the price isn't that big a deal if it looks hot... but time is a little bit of a stickler

I am enjoying the build. I am excited to see how it turns out. I keep thinking about doing a post for my build but the quality of your workmanship obliterates what I can do. Not enough time in the day or space in the garage. I will drool over yours and might be lucky enough to pick up some good ideas.

The Overkill bumper is a sore subject with me right now. If I did not like it so much, I would have ordered and probably received & installed another one by now - or better yet have kept my original one. It was one of the first things I ordered back in early May. I ordered it from 4wheelparts.com and waited. waited. and waited some more. Finally, they said that they were terminating the relationship because of problems filling orders. This was about 3 months ago - I got my money back and decided to pay a little more and order directly from Overkill. So now I am again waiting and getting very frustrated. I was told when I placed my order that it would take 6 weeks - well that was 12 weeks ago!

To answer your question - I have no idea when to expect it. I have asked a dozen times and get this worthless answer "We are behind schedule, we do not know when the bumper will ship, but will be sure to let you know when it does". I have been told that for the last 6 weeks. So if you can't wait around 4+ months - find something else.

I just love the bumper and the way it looks. I love how it protects the steering box and how the stinger is just the right size (not crazy big). I love the mean look it has. So I will just continue to wait I guess - It has been 7 months, whats a few more weeks right?

I suggest you reconsider posting up a build thread. They are great inspiration for other back yard mechanics. Even if your build is on the smaller scale, it will be helpful to many. My build is tiny and pretty tame compared to many around here or pirate. If your jeep is not your daily driver and you have a wife who is a little understanding, I say - clean out a spot in the garage and spend the winter having fun building something to play with in the Spring.

Well said. There are a lot of guys like me who plan nothing more than a budget boost with a 1" body lift and armor. It makes it easier to hear about others' experiences and see their photos. Thanks to people posting their "small projects" I had the confidence to rebuild my drive line and replace my pinion seal which saved me at least $100.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I am holding off on the true start to my project until I get the title and transfer squared away... Oh the joys of buying an EBay motors Jeep (the only way to get one reasonably cheap here in Alaska)!

Yep, frame was notched. I was a little uneasy about it as well which is why I had a pro do the work. From my understanding, that area and the rear of the frame does not take the stresses that the rest of the frame does and once the bracket is properly welded into position, there will be no problems.
