Going from stock to 33's with moderate wheelin' should this advise from the original post be followed? I'm looking at a 4in lift. Regearing, Dana 44's and super 35's have got me hung. I would love a check list for running 33's (if anyone has the time) I do use my jeep as a daily driver. Thanks for any help

Fill in your profile so we can see what you have. If you have a 6 cylinder and 3.73's with a manual. I would try it without re-gearing and decide later if it is really worth it. But if you have the auto, or you have a 4 cylinder I would recommend a re-gear.

Bringing this old out dated post back from the dead eh. Honestly put a 2 inch budget boost a 1 inch body lift and front disconnects. Then take it out and you will learn from there exactly what you want/need.

Without doing a real total part by part you can be up to 8-10 grand to do a 4 inch lift properly with lockers re gearing or axle swaps.

It's "old", but not out dated. Advice is rock solid.

Perhaps that was the wrong word. It is a very good description of the initial concept for what you will need, but still leaves many gaps for a new owner trying to figure it all out.

hey i am just getting into the whole axle swap stuff. So what exactly makes a d30 a hp d30? and where can i get a good price on axles?

HP = high pinion, in contrast to the low pinion that TJs come with. Options for swap include finding an XJ axle (96-99 preferred years), watching the classifieds and Craig's list, buying from somewhere like East Coast Gear Supply, etc.

High pinion means the pinion is above the axle shafts.

Slow build towards 35's

I want to run 35's on my lj. Can't do it all in 1 shot I understand how crazy it would get w/$. I want to know the best way to get there 1 step, part or project at a time . No rush it's my DD it has 3" spacer lift would like those gone & 32" tires. So what I'm asking is where do I start ? Lift, regear etc. I would also like to do it each right the 1st time

Just buy the 35s, install them on your Jeep, and tackle the side-effects of 35s from gears to brakes to axle shafts to steering... You'll still be happier than if you bought 33s, plus you'll learn how to maintain your track bar and control arms in the cold of winter.LOL
