I spun out!!!!!!!!

This morning on my way to school in about 8 inches of slushy snow I took a corner at about 25 mph and spun out. My Jeep did a 360 and luckily hit a snow bank to stop me. I tried to start up it up again and on the 3rd try or so I finally got it. I drove all the way to school without any other problems and it seemed fine on the way home. I don't know about your Jeeps but it seems that mine likes to fishtail and the back end slips out very easily. I was thinking about putting bags of sand in the back to weigh it down a little and hopefully help prevent it from slipping. Also I am most likely going to get my BFG A/Ts siped. Any things I could do to help prevent this from happening again and keep the back end under control?

Do you mean BFG M/Ts? A/Ts are already siped.

Your ATs are already siped, why not just slow down? Taking a corner at 25 mph doesn't seem like the wisest thing to do when the streets are covered in snow.

I know I was driving a little fast but even when I go slow around corners the back end slides out.

Short wheelbase+slippery surface+too much speed = off she goes!

Just a question of getting used to the vehicle; the backend does indeed want to snap out under some conditions (like you saw this morning!). Go back to the corner, take it about half speed, see how the Jeep handles. Go back again, up the speed, take the corner, see how the Jeep handles. After some experience you'll "feel" when the rear is about to swap ends with the front, allowing you time to counter-steer and bring the Jeep back in line. But the best bet is to slow down before reaching the breaking point. Jeeps are designed to get ya there - but nobody said they'll get ya there quick! <g>.

I assume you were in 4wd (in 2wd, you would prob get nowhere anyway).

Some sand bags in the back can help. Slowing down is the best advise.

People cannot believe I take my CJ off the road in the winter, speculating it is so great on snowy roads. On a trail, or slow-paced snow driving SWB Jeeps are great, but while moving briskly on a snow-covered road there is little room for error; once the rear goes out they can be very hard to get back on track.

Secondary siping helps. The factory siping is not like the ones on the machine, next time we get some snow I'll take a picture and post it makes a big difference.

Put some weight in the back and yea run it in 4wdH.

The weight in the back couldn't hurt. And if you get stuck, god forbid, in a parking lot or something you could throw down some sand to help with traction.

So why weren't you in 4 wheel drive?

You definetely don't want BFG MTs then. They are 1000X worse the ATs. I have never had a problem with the ATs, I have spun around with the MTS though.

He was in 4wd, just sounds like the road conditions were really bad.

I've managed to spin it going less than 15 k/hr around a corner. Its all about knowing the road conditions an compensating for it.

I have yet to do a 360. My advice would be to just slow down. When I have it in 4wd I never feel the back end slip out of MY control. Let off the gas when turning, then if you feel it start to slip, thats when you give it gas to staightin out. You'll learn the vehicle the more you drive it of course.
