just thought it would be a neat idea if someone could start a thread with only pics and info on home mods. write-ups wouldn't have to be included but a link to one would be nice if it is available. if someone likes the idea, start it up!
it is out of a wrangler. a tj... and it did come 99 and on. i think a few years in the middle were skipped. 97s did not have them an some if not all 98s didnt either. this one is from a 99.
the shifter for the t-case was explained above when you snipped the pic you took it out. lol!! i took the pic while the novak cane was cooling, getting painted or something.
Well, I put the 5.25 inch speakers up front today. My driver's side front was already blown, and the pass front was sounding horrid, so I moved them and put some 6.5's in the back. I didn't want to spend any money though on mounts so....
I took the old speakers and cut them out of the brackets: Finished on the left, stock on the right.
I used a 3-point mount for the speakers.
Everything fit great.
I used a black&decker rotary tool to do all the cutting. I know it's not as strong as 33's setup, but it will work fine for me. One word of advice - drill slowly, I actually cut the second one completely in half on the skinny side by drilling into it too fast.
First I cut the sleeve down to the same length as the tie rod. 34-1/2" I believe.
I notched the end so that the stock strap would fit snuggly in the end and I would still be able to tighten. This also made the OEM tie rod snug in the sleeve. I did this to both ends.
Next I marked a straight line from end to end of the sleeve and drilled holes every six inches.
I marked the tie rod through the holes and grinded the paint off. Then put the tie rod back into the sleeve, ready to weld. Welded the sleeve to the tie rod and fillled the holes. Then I cleaned the welds up.
03-06 the switch was only available in vehicles without a rear seat as part of the standard package! Only a few 03-06 4banger sports without rear seating had the switch. The seating sensor for passengers was not utilized in the 03-06, and both bags deploy by default!
This is what the FSM says.
The passenger airbag on/off switch is standard equipment on all versions of this model that are equipped with the dual front airbag system, but are not equipped with a rear seat.
Has anybody ever built windsheild light mounts? If so could you post some pics?
I was told that you could just mount the light directly to the windshield by removing one of the torx bolts from the hinge and screwing it back in with the light bracket. This does work for sure but now my lights point to far off the sides and I can`t rotate them. Kind of pointless to light up the ditches. So I was hoping to built some sort of mounting brackets instead of purchasing a KC light mount.
I mounted mine the way you described. They do point slightly to the outside, but they don't leave a dark spot in the middle, so I left them that way. If they did leave a dark spot I planned to mount a piece of angle to the windshield the way the light is attached and then mount the light to it; that would give you adjustability both up and down and side to side.
I made a set of those 5 1/4 speaker brackets for my 99 sahara today. saved $20...they work fine except the speaker cover has a small bulge now. its not enough to bother me though.. they sound great now. i also put a set of 6.5s in the sound bar. i found sonys that fit without new holes. took ten minutes!!!!
i made some out of lexan. i heated and bent it to fit the area to seperate the front of the speaker from the rear. there is no air passage between that space. i used sony 5.25" speakers too btw...
did it make a difference? yeah, probably. but now i really dont care too much about that stuff anyways (in the jeep)
started with an 04 willey's edition... besttop safari... but the rain dripped in down the rollbar onto the seatbelts... I design body-armor for a living so I have access to some good sewing equiptment... after a couple of hours and a couple of yards of PVC backed 1000D Cordura... OD green mesh rear window... a fiberglass bike safety flag whip to secure the top and bottom of the rear curtain... which can be rolled up and secured to the rollbar if the kids are in the back seat... seams to work for south florida... pics to come when they clear screening
Modeled after the one a lot of you guys have, this was created for about $7.99 at Home Depot, mount screws use original speaker housing screws/mounting locations. They are both powered directly from the battery through the dashboard and out into the engine compartment using an old vacuum power cord that I spliced.
first pic is of the metal
also screwed in the clip (the double sided tape didn't hold up)

There isn't much clearance for the pin, but it fits with no problem. The only thing that I have to do is trim anything that goes into the reciever, and re-drill a hole for the pin (thankfully have two BIG milling machines at work, along with about ten drill presses). Otherwise the hitch will hit the crossmember, and not be much use, as the pin needs a hole to go through.
