I know......another exhaust leak question

I bought my TJ used and it has the manifold in the ad above, I can still hear an exhaust tick when accelerating....what is the easiest way to find where it's coming from if you are checking by yourself ? Thanks

A very wise forum member recently advised me of the shop vac and soap solution method. It worked great for me, I identified every leak and solved the problem.

Hook your wet/dry vac to tail pipe with engine off and cold...duct tape it to the pipe so you have a good seal. Turn in on blow to pressurize the pipe and start spraying dish soap and water where you think the leak is. watch for the bubbles and the truth will be told.

Works Great!

You know, Jeeps have loud lifters (valves) as well. Not saying this is your problem, but my brand new jeep was makin some ruckus and previous owners/mustang guru's that I know listened in on it and told me exactly what it was. Didn't wanna take it to my dealer cause they can barely fill out paperwork right, much less tell me what a specific noise is. They would prolly "keep it overnight just to make sure."

xcvDudewayne,

If you have the lawn mower sound....then spray at the bottom collector (where all the pipes come together) on your header. If you have a good light, you may be able to see the crack...they are usually pretty big. If not, spray the soap there and you will likely find the problem. If you own a 97, I would bet it's cracked.

I was going to suggest the header advertised here, but then i re-read your first post and saw that's what you have now. If thats cracked, then I don't have any good suggestions for a replacement. I spent $400 on a Banks and it cracked within months.

Hopefully it's just a manifold gasket. IF you dont find any bubbles, try re-torquing all the manifold bolts and see if that works.

from what I've read having the manifold welded is the best way to remedy cracks and future ones. Weld around all the seems, especially around the collector. If done right it will make the seams stronger.

In the ad for the manifold above, does anyone know if the warranty goes with the Jeep or with the person....because I bought my jeep with the manifold already on it.
Also is the vendor that sells these manifolds on this site ? (besides their ad ?)

I cannot speak for the vendor that sells your header, but most lifetime warraties on parts only apply to the original purchaser. Therefore, you would not be covered. If you know the person you purchased the jeep from, or can contact them, ask them to search their records for the receipt and try to obtain a replacement for you. They would have to call and make the arrangements. That is likely the only way you will get it replaced under warranty.
