Thats a great price! I'd recommend buying it, selling it for about 12-14k and then buying a '97 or something like that if you'd like to spend the rest on aftermarket parts.........and you will anyways. Buy it-sell it-earn profit-spend profit on new jeep. Thats the way I would see it! If you dont want to do that, it sounds like a nice one!

Nuts to that, it's got the Dana44 and it's a new-ish Jeep for a great price. It looks like a keeper to me.

Just be patient and mod that one when you can afford it.

I plan to keep this one.

I am not positive I'll be happy with a Wrangler as a primary vehicle. I need to drive it for a year or so to be sure. It'll be an adjustment to figure out where to stuff all the stuff I am used to having with me all the time..

We'll get there I figure though.

I have been finding out more about it though.

I need to change the speedo gear I think. It reads WAY fast, like 80 when I am doing 65, so maybe this one USED to be lifted and had bigger tires, and someone compensated for that, but did not put the original speedo gear back in.

I want to be sure to figure out the gear ratio too. Seems like I am turning a lot of revs for 65 MPH.

Lots to do. Still very happy with the purchase.

Damn good price. I am having a hard time adjusting to the jeep for a year round daily driver. Just drives completely drifferent than a car, but nothing too bad... except gas mileage

If your speedo is reading too high, and your RPM's are high, it definitely sounds like it was once lifted. If you can find out what ratio gears are in it now, the best thing you can do is put the appropriate size tires on and be glad it's already re-geared!

That could be a real gem right there, re-gearing can cost up to $1,000 with all the labour included.

I figured that out today.

It's got 3.73's and limited slip rear. I can find no evidence that it was ever lifted. I figure that it came stock with 3.07's and someone geared it to 3.73 for better performance, and never regeared the speedo. I'll do that in a hurry though.

Now for even better news... if my theory holds water... it's got even fewer miles on it than I thought!

It might have lower miles on it than you thought, but note that the engine has been spinning at higher RPM's than normal, but it's having an easier job of moving the Jeep because of the gearing. Hard to say whether it's had more or less wear. I'd say it probably isn't significant.

Throw some 30-31" tires on it and it'll be perfect for 3.73's.

Check that the front ratio is also 3.73. There's no center differentials in Jeep Wranglers so you need to have the front and rear ratio the same if you want to use 4wd.

I checked it, but I ned another man to help me turn both front tires at once to count the shaft revs.

For now I'm going to put the Bridgstone Dueller REVO's on it that are on my Grand Cherokee. I really like them. 99% of my driving is commuting, although I am one of the few people in the world that actually USE 4x4. Most of US are. hehehe

I do not however go mudding just for kicks... it's always to get somewhere I want to get to.
