i dunno need help anyone got any ideas?? please post soon!!
alrite so me and my buddy were out wheeling around having a good time and he ended up gettin pretty stuck in this one spot and i attempted to pull him out but it was that muddy that my winch would pull my jeep towards his... so then we tried a strap and that didnt work to well either... as we were doing that my clutch started to smoke and u could smell it pretty good... so then finally we got him out and continued riding... further down the road i noticed my engine light or whatever it is it sorta looks like a tranny light had come on... everything was working perfectly fine and i figured id look into it more when we got back home. well we were riding the road on the way out and i saw a decent size hill to climb so i did... no problems really up and down the little hill... well as i was pulling away from the bottom of the hill... my clutch just stopped working u could push the pedal down but nothing it wouldnt let u shift into first or anything... so then we figured maybe puttin it in 4high or 4 low mite help so we tried that and then i believe what happened was the clutch cable broke... so im thinkin awesome everything just keeps breaking.... so my buddy figured we would push the back of it and then shift it into first and atleast get it out of the mountain... so we exited the mountain and im driving on pavement down the road and suddenly everything just stopped working... u could shift it into gear and give it gas and it was as if it was in neutral... so i went back today to see what i could figure out and its still doing what i did before... u can push the clutch in and shift into gears but nothing happens and u can rev it all u want and it doesnt go anywhere!!!! please help I REALLY NEED TO GET THIS FIXED BEFORE DAD FINDS OUT!!!! hes gonna shoot me for sure!!!! So please let me know what u guys think it is. i would greatly appreciate it.

Have you checked your clutch fluid level? Sounds like a possible master/slave cylinder leak.

cant really help as the problem goes, but for future outings, if you winch and get pulled forward, just use a strap around a tree and attach to rear bumper to keep you from slidinf forward during winching

Sounds like you smoke the clutch to me. AFTER the clutch starts to smoke its generally a good idea to call it a day, not soldier on. I think you're going to need a part time job to pay your old man back for the repairs.

At CJ 07 we had a guy in a 99 TJ who got stuck bad in the juicy muck on the playground. He got so much watery mud in his tranny he was having all kinds of noises..then slipping, then overheating...they actually closed that part of the campground due to all the repairs people needed.
Long story short...he had to get a new clutch. They did it there but the wet muddy stuff got in there and mucked it all up... back to the shop for you... or crawl under it, clean it up and change it out yourself... ![]()

if it started to smoke...... you beat it pretty bad. It doesn't take as long as you might think to fry a perfectly good clutch. Neighbors of mine own a little self storage place and they have a plow on there jeep, well they got to pushin too much snow and slippin the clutch too much and too often and boom, a perfectly good clutch was smoked. They had the exact same symptoms as you do unfortunately, had to push it down the street to a repair shop. I know it sucks, but IMO, you need another clutch, sorry bro.

If you can get it into gear and let out the clutch and it doesn't move sounds more like the clutch than the hydraulics. It doesn't take much to burn one up. And just another thought, you said you just installed this clutch? could the pressure plate bolts be backing off. Good luck with it!

just rereading the the story there and sorry to ask such a simple question but have you maybe got the transfer case in neutral. Also before you start ripping out everything crawl under ( with the truck turned off and wheels blocked) and just confirm the slave cylinder is moving the clutch fork.

Choosy moms choose jeep.
|
Just for future reference, when pulling someone out dont use your clutch as a torque converter. Put the jeep in low range get a couple feet of slack in the RECOVERY STRAP (highly recommended), then let out the clutch all the way hit the gas and when the strap goes tight you may either give it a bit more throttle or put in the clutch and repeat the steps again until your friend is out.
OR Just anchor to a tree and use your winch ![]()
