I broke the power steering pump pulley.

How do I get tthe power steering pump pulley off? How much is a new one?

The bolts are too long to take off without hitting the pulley wheel Also how do I get the whole pump off? I used a rubber strap wrench around the pulley and a hex wrench in the bolt but the outside cracked off I barely started turning so it might have been strained previously but that dosent matter its broken. what now.

Thanks

Pulleys dont unscrew. They are pressed on and need to be pulled off. New one from a scrap yard new pump from autozone. Autozone may be able to sell you a pulley also.

They make power steering pump pulley pullers. Try that. They are also used to press the new pulley on after you remove the broken bits you have now.

Personally though, if I were you, I'd just take the whole mess off and go swap it for a new one.

You dont need to remove fuel lines. Honestly no offence but take the truck to a mechanic. At the rate your going you will spend more $ fixing what you break than paying a mechanic to do it.

Thanks Scaafire. 95xj No offense taken. Im not taking it to a mechanic. If i blow it I blow it. i can still ask questions on here dont answer if you dont want. I was talking about disconnecting the fuel from the engine so i can lift it out its got to be done and I figured it out. If I break a 12 dollar pulley its not give up time for me.

And its not a truck its a jeep.

I have no problem answering questions dont get me wrong. I just would hate to see you damage something pay for a tow and a fix and lay out twice as much as you would have had to if you had left it alone know what i mean. Glad you were able to figure it out though

Are you lifting the engine out or the pump?

If it's the pump, and the Six cylinder motor, there is no need to even touch the fuel lines.

you need a special tool to install and remove the pulley on power steering. Ive never did it on my jeep but they may have the puller for rent at your parts store

years ago, on another vehicle, i took a new and old ps pump to a alternator/starter rebuild shop. they charged me $3-4 to move pulley from old to new pump.

some parts stores also have special tools for "free rent'. just leave a deposit and get it back on return of the tools.

good luck. if you aren't making mistakes, you aren't doing anything.
