HVAC Fan Speed Low speed doesn't work (links to photos)

When running either fresh air or AC in my 2002 TJ, position one of the fan speeds does not work. The switch goes from Off to 1 (Low) to 2 (Med) to 3 (High-Full) as you turn from left to right. This for all settings (face, feet and face, defog etc)

After searching this forum for some confirmation, I went to the dealer yesterday and bought a new fan speed switch thinking the issue was in the switch. (approx $25 with tax) I opened the dash and connected the new switch in place of the old but have the same issue. Could the fan motor be bad or maybe some wiring? Is this the first step before the fan motor dies completely?

These are pics from my camera phone - not great but not terrible

No visible damage on the old/stock switch

No visible damage on the old/stock connector

This is the box for the new switch (model might be important?)

It may not sound like a big deal but it gets pretty irritating going from no fan to medium speed only *all the time*. Anyway, tips or suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not to be a smart aleck ... but ... did the part about "These are pics from my camera phone" get missed? It is the only camera I have.

Seriously though, before I have the dealership look at the fan motor looked it would be nice if someone confirmed whether there was anything else I could do

Mine only works on 1, 2 and 4. I need a new switch. Hopefully then it will work then. As for what yours is doing, I have no clue.

It is probably the fan resistor. Search for that, it is pretty easy to change. At least it was in my XJ.

Sounds like the resistor to me, you can pick up the part from the dealer for $15. I found replacing it to be a PITA but worth the effort. The '02 uses the "credit card" shaped resistor, it slides into the blower assembly under the glove box.
