How to tell if 231J from a YJ will directly replace on in a 2003 TJ?

My friend needs a T-case for his 2003 TJ (6 cylinder/auto) and I have one from a YJ (don't know exactly what it came out of, 4 or 6 cylinder/auto or manual, it came with my Jeep when I bought it). How can I tell if this will fit into his TJ?
