Hello all,
Looking to find out how much I'm looking at to get my clutch replaced. 2000 TJ, throwout bearing went out. Will have the shop do clutch, throwout, and pilot bearing, and rear main seal. Just looking for a ballpark idea from those who have had it done at regular shop price.

Looks like you have the 4.0, which means the RMS can be replaced without dropping the transmission. So unless the RMS is leaking there's no reason to have it replaced.
Correct, 4.0. Fair enough. It doesn't leak, but I figured as long as it's staring the mechanic in the face, why not get it done?
But that's not the bigger question here... Just looking to know what kind of bill I'll be looking at once all said and done. Dropped it off today, but with holiday weekend they won't get to it till Tuesday afternoon. I'll get a quote from them before they start. However, I've never paid to have a clutch replaced in the past and not sure how much to expect..

You still have to drop the exhaust and oil pan to change the RMS so it's going to be a fair amount to have done and you aren't saving anything having it done at the same time.
Now, on the 4 cylinder engine the transmission does have to be pulled, so in that situation it absolutely would make sense so do the RMS at the same time.
I don't know what the book estimate is for a clutch, but if I had to guess it's probably around 6 hours. When you get the quote it should tell you the estimated hours, if it's over 6 hours find someone else. I don't know, I'd say around $500-$600 for labor and parts, really depends on the region and what the hourly rate is. Some areas fetch $90-$100/hr which will push you into the $700-$800 range.
So, of I understand correctly... It would actually be more work to have them do the RMS along with the clutch then? If that's the case, then obviously I'll leave it alone as it's not currently leaking.
Other then pilot, throw out bearing, and the actual clutch, anything else I should be worried about down there while the tranny is out? I've read here in these forums that resurfacing the flywheel in my jeep is not recommended due to a concave shape or something? So if it's in bad shape, just replace? Any other thoughts?

With OEM parts and option to replace the flywheel if needed. Parts are about 400 without the flywheel, more with. You also have a much harder skid to drop than normal. Also, you have that squeak sound when you push in the clutch which may be something additional to do with the clutch master and slave. Or it may just be the throw-out bearing on it's way out. Hard to tell.
I had the clutch replaced three months ago in my '03 Sahara.
I opted for factory parts.
The final bill was $1,200CDN
It was worth it for me, but not everyone will agree.
I had the clutch done in my 2.5L (new flywheel, clutch, TO bearing), along with RMS, and I had them install a new oil pan (I provided oil pan and gasket so not included in cost) for $800. This is very much on the low side of the cost spectrum so $1000 I would not find unreasonable. If they run into problems, like rusted nutserts etc..., could easily be more.

A job everyone should attempt on their own --- Did mine in my garage. Replaced with Luk clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing and fly wheel. Took about 8 hours and cost $188.96. It was my first one and it went fairly smoothly. While I was in there I also replaced all the transmission and TC fluids.
if removing your skid plate was anythng like mine, (1999TJ, 6 cyl manual 5 spd) you could easily add another $100-200 for the labor of cutting the bolts and install of nutserts. I did my own clutch, TB, Clutch fork, new Slave cyl and nutserts for the cost of the parts. I took about 10 days to complete in my driveway. Also, took the opportunity to replace Drive shaft bolts, ujoint collars in front and back , and Ujoints in the rear.
If you're having this same work done, expect a bill for about $1100, $1,200 IMO. Learned a lot doing it myself.
