How much left after gas light comes on?

So here's my funny question. I've had my '02 TJ for about a month now and from my understanding it has a 19 gallon gas tank in it. Whenever the gas light comes on I go fill it up, but I've never put more than 14 gallons in it before it shuts off.

Does the TJ really have a 5 gallon reserve? Has anyone run outta gas and do you remember how far you made it with the gas light on?

Thanks for the info.

The fuel light comes on when there is 4-5 gallons in the tank.

40 miles is a good safe range, maybe more or less depending on what MPG you get.

i think it is going to vary from vehicle to vehicle.

when my lite comes on, i have 4-5 gals or 50-60 miles left.

just like any fuel gauge, i think you have to "learn" how it acts for that vehicle.

I drive mine past the E and fill up with 17 - 18 gallon. I can generally pull about 260 miles for the tank if I know I'll be around a gas station when the times comes to fill up.

On mine, every 1/4 mark on the gauge is about 4 gallons or 50 miles (maybe a few more miles if I'm just on the highway). I usually run it down to the E and end up putting 16 gallons in.

same here. I have a 15 gallon tank and the most I've ever gotten in it (I thought I was running on fumes) was 13 gallons.

That's funny this question was asked. I was just thinking this to myself the other day. Jeep sent my build sheet and when I saw it had a 19 gallon tank I was like "I don't think so!" That's good to know somebody else runs into this.

I have 4 gallons left when the light comes on. From what I've been told you should fuel up right away when the light comes on as fuel in the tank helps to keep the fuel pump cool.
