On the TJ there is a lever on the left side that is actually the catch for the pin. Lift it up and then tilt the seat forward.

I just took the rear seat out of mine...I rarely have more than two people in any vehicle of mine anyway and I have much more useable space without it.

i just picked up a '98 and the back seat was not installed in it, I see the 2 latches towards the back of the seat but do not see what attaches to the front of the seat....I see the latches in the floor but am confused if i am missing a bracket. Does anyone have any pics?

If you are standing at the back of the jeep looking into your tailgate the latch is on the back of the seat at the bottom left corner of the seat itself

If I remember right there is a "kinda rounded triangular shaped metal bracket" with a hole in it on either side of the seat cargo area. The seat has a metal "pin or bar" sticking out of either side in the front. You have to start the seat on one side of the holes and slide it as far as you can then slide it back into the other hole onthe other side. That is what holds the front down. Hope I remembered correctly
