How Do I Get The C-Clips Off An 8.8 Rearend?

There seems to be a piece that goes through to both sides. It's kind of shaped like a capital R and I that are connected. I can't get access to the clips. I can see them, but I can't get anything in to pop them out. Any help?
Thanks
Chad.

Have you already removed the cross pin? After you remove the cross pin, push the axles inward about 1/4 inch and you should be able to easily push the C-clips off.
