Engine, transfer case, transmission all make heat...The floor metal is pretty thin, and sits right on top of this stuff..

Yep, the catalytic converter gets damned hot and only has a little bit of sheet metal and thin carpeting between it and the passenger compartment. Not to mention the tranny and transfer case both throw off heat as well. Jeeps don't have much to insulate heat and noise out like a car has so it's just best to kinda accept it as a Jeep thing. And you sure won't go barefoot for long if you ever remove the carpeting.

Exactly the reason I've kept my carpeting.

There's always peel and stick products like CoolIt from ThermoTec:

I like that. Might also reflect light better when I'm working under it at night

You can also get the non-stick version of that as well which is the route I went in my rig. I wanted to be able to remove the stuff easily if I ever dunked the Jeep and soaked the carpet and insulation. It actually made a significant difference, both in keeping heat under control when warm outside as well as during the winter. I pulled the carpet and then cut it to fit underneath. 1 roll pretty much did the trick.

BTW....you live down the street from me. La Verne aint that big and I've seen you in your rig a few times. I'm up at the top of Wheeler running a black TJ on 35's with a silver WK in the driveway.

Small world! It may have been your house (on the east side of the street?), a few weeks back, that we did a 4LO "speed test" in front of on Wheeler. My son had made a comment on how slow the Jeep was. The old drag racer in me couldn't resist...

So rolls start at 12" x 12"
Hey Robert J. yates - how many rolls did you end up needing?

I cut up a winshield sun shade:

Placed it under the carpeting. Keeps the carpet off the floor when the water gets in sometimes. Works great. $5 mod.
