Home Made Hard Top Storage Dolly

So i dont feel like dropping $150 for a starage dolly for my hard top but i could really use one.

I have heard about people making them themselves and I was wondering if there are any write ups or anyone here that has done this and can share some insight or photos.

thanks

Go to harbor freight and get a tool cart for cheap. Set the top on the tool cart and roll it around.

I've been thinking about trying to build one out of an old rolling bed frame, but haven't quite decided the best route to go.

Plans can be downloaded for free at performancejeepchrysler.com, these are made from wood, easy to build

I built one that holds the Jeep top the way it sits on the Jeep. A couple of 2 x 4's and 4 castors set me back about 10 bucks. I made it so the Jeep bolts to the dolly just like it is sitting on the tubs rails....My top is covered with Herculiner, so the top on a dolly makes a great portable work bench...LOL.

Heres mine I built..The wood was only a few bucks, But I bought a bag of clamps which was $15 and casters which were about $8

I got the write up online, I forget where, but it was very simple to make.

Nice to see a place that will give you FREE plans to build your own storage cart at the same time they have a manufactured rack for over $200. Most places would say that a DIY rack would not be as good as their $200 rack. Good public relations move, nice plans too.

mine is made out of some left over lumber from my old shop.

I just measured the over all length, the height, the width of the rear glass.. added some guess work and 1/2 inch on everything.. worked out great!

pics will be posted tomorrow !!

Old thread, I know....but I just built this. Went to performancejeepchrysler.com, downloaded the plans, ran to Home Depot:

$33.00 in parts.
45min of time.

Rolling rack done. I built the rack in faster time than it has taken my son to sand the two entry guards that go on the side of the jeep under the door to protect it from 'kick marks'.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the help and guideance.
