Home Made , DIY , Off Road Trailer .

I got the idea from here http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/bo...r-kit-1274811/ and other posts here on JF .....

I like the idea of having a trailer I can store on the side of my house .
Convert to either 4' for camping small stuff or 8' dirtbikes and big stuff.
Its inexpensive and has big tires .

Sierra trailers cost bout $3,000. for the base model.
I've got , I'd say less than $500..... Ill add it up later.

These are some of the pics of the construction .
I got the 1700 lb rated trailer at HF. its not meant to fold up but has similar construction as the lighter ones. It has a 5-4.5 bolt pattern .

Cut the frame width down to 44" and used 1-1/4" wheel spacers. To allow clearance of the big tires on stock jeep rims.

Very nice work Mike! How much did the base trailer cost, and how much do you have in it all total?

That is really nicely done! How did you construct the sides? Are the angle joints rabbeted or biscuited? Really nice.

We (my dad and I) built this one a year or so back. Works great.
33x10.5x15 BGFs, 3500lb axle, LineX interior, LED lights, multiple hitch options.

Awesome trailers!

I really want one for camping gear. When I currently go camping its like I'm going backpack camping as I can take so little.

Sorry for big pics will shrink later... if I can figure it out...
So I'm a bit confused

Did you build 2 trailers, a 4 ' and a folding 8'?

How did you remove the tongue on the red 8" for storage?

How does your 8' fold in the middle?

Thanks,

John

Thanx.

On sale at harbor freight with a coupon from JP magazine. The trailer kit cost bout $300 (including tax) . http://www.harborfreight.com/1720-lb...res-94564.html $350 before tax normally...

I used two sheets of MDO plywood. ( Medium density overlay ) Its plywood with a paper-like layer that is used for sign's and concrete forms...
Easy to get a smooth finish on........
but I had some from another project left over so .... for a four foot trailer .. You could get buy probly with two but to make the 8' trailer you'd have to buy three sheets. Bout $50 - $60 a sheet.

I had the wheels and tires left over. Had some 1-1/4" spacers left over too.
They go for $50 $60 +/- on ebay..... I think I got four for $100. I can't find that deal right now on ebay though???

Got tired of working on it so I got Bear paint with primer built in 1 gallon. Bout $45 . two cans of Bed Liner by duplicolor . I dohno $20 ???

Nuts bolts from local store......???? $20 ish...

Trailer $300
Wood $100
Spacers $50
Paint $65
Hardware $20

So it cost Bout $535 ish +/-

A base model sierra trailer is $3000.
Saved 2,400 . not as good but will do what I need it to do.

Oh yeah this trailer is very light compared to those off road trailers . By a thousand lbs.

Sort of a butt joint . Just screws with tightbond water proof glue.
I'm actually surprised at how rigid it cam out..

Its modular so it comes apart at the corners for storage.
The corners add support . It really strong..

MDO is marine grade ply . I have sealed it pretty good with exterior paint and plan to store the ply inside.
