While there is no actual trailer wiring harness included with TJs, you can buy one pre-wired for a TJ that plug in between a pair of plugs found inside the right-rear corner of the tub. Access it from the bottom via a cardboard access cover plate that covers that area. Pull a plastic snap-in retainer with a pair of pliers to open it.

You might already have everything you need. check inside of your bumper it might be in there already. Mine was setting in there and I didn't even know I had it because it was hidden so well. Heck, I dont even know if mine works. It was open the last time I submerged my jeep in mud... Oh well thats how it goes I guess.

New to jeeps wiring question
I'm a new jeep owner (1 week). I too would like to get access to the wiring to set it up to be towed by another vehicle. Is the panel you are talking about the part that covers the whole wheel well? If so will it come out without taking the wheel off?
Is there a place in the front to access the tail light wires? Thanks Mike |

It's the small cover on the bottom side between the bumper and rear fender well. All the rear light's wiring plugs in there.
To wire it for trailer lights. Go to the parts store and buy the trailer wiring adapter. ($12ish) Unplug the plug in above mentioned area. Plug in the adapter and you're good to go. I can't help you with wiring the Jeep to be towed. You might either check your local Uhaul, or invest in the magnetic lights that you stick to your vehicle when towing. |

brake lights out
My 98 TJ was a tow veh. previous owner took tow bar and wiring. Brake lights went out, fuse ok, so I looked up under the dash at the brake pedal switch. Wiggled switch and all worked fine for a couple of days. There are two wires, with connector tips hanging loose. I looked up the stock brake switch and it is quite different, so I assume what is there is what was required to rig up the lights for towing. Question is, where do I go from here to get my brake lights working. Is there more TS I can do?
