Hi-Lift Mount for 5 bucks and 5 minutes!

I got tired of my hi-lift either sitting in the garage or rattling in the back seat since I don't have a proper mount. After seeing this crock of sh!t for $80...
Quadratec Exclusive TJ-HLJM - Sport Cage Hi-Lift® Jack Mount for 97-06 Jeep® Wrangler TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec
I figured there's gotsta be a better way.

So on my next trip to Autozone I found exhaust clamps for $2.49 a piece. I picked up one 2.5" and one 3" and went home to see what I could do. Well, literally 5 minutes later my jack was hanging from the roll bar with the help of a 3/8" wing nut I had laying around.

Once the design was complete (if you can call it that) I took it back apart and refined it to what you see here. I had to relocate the tab that was at the top of the neck to a few bolt holes lower. I added some split rubber hose between the jack's upper neck and the flat part of the clamp to reduce vibrations. I put a big flat washer behind the wing nut, then made a rubber "washer" from some hose to go behind the washer as well. Then I painted all the hardware flat black and bolted it back up.

It's been hanging like that for a few weeks now and I have ZERO complaints. It doesn't vibrate at all. It removes without tools. It works with no top, soft top, AND hard top. And best of all...it cost $5.

if you flip it over so the jack part is facing down then no one will hit their head on it in the backseat and it still works the same

It's hard to visualize this, but if I mounted it higher up, would passengers hit their heads?

G-MANtj and others who've had it that way for a while, has it torn up or otherwise messed with your rollbar padding or the fabric covering it?

i haven't noticed any tears. if you make sure the pad is straight when you mount the jack it should be fine.

Do you think a folded down soft top would get caught or rip with the jack there? Thats the only thing holding me back from doing this.

I did mine, in my YJ, just recently. The headrest on my seat keep the jack from becoming an issue.

I can't imaging Q-tech is actually selling too many of those $80 brackets, which are basically the same thing.

Nice! Good setup. I used fence clips before I got my rear bumper and tire carrier. The U-bolts are definitely a better mount.
