Hey all, New here and have a few ?s

Hey all,

I recently purchased an 05 Wrangler and have ordered clear front and side marker lights to replace the amber colored ones. My question is: how quick/easy are these to remove and install. The fronts just look like screws but the side markers I havent looked into. Forgive my ignorance, I've been in the sport compact scene for 4 years and have been converted to the jeep lifestyle. Any opinions, thoughts, advice anyone can give me would be helpful. My jeep is an 05 Wrangler SE (bone stock) that I plan on accessorizing to the hilt but want some opinions....already ordered a set of cragar wheels/tires and these front/side marker lights...thanks for the input and advice in advance!

Welcome. You won't be disappointed. I installed mine the same day I brought it home from the dealership. The fronts are just 2 screws as you say... and the sides you have to reach up behind the fender. It's sort of a "self-tapping nut" that threads itself on a piece of plastic. Just use a pair of pliers and back it off then put it on the clear one. Fairly simple.

Since you're new, I just want to make sure you know your role now. You must wave to every Wrangler out there.... sometimes you may get a wave from a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee etc. etc... but don't miss a Wrangler

Just to add a little-known point.

The sidemarkers, by law, need to be amber. Having clear side makers with amber bulbs does not satisfy the requirements.

There will be many people that respond and say that they haven't had a problem or don't get stopped and still pass inspection, but the letter of the law is quite clear regarding the amber coloured reflective lens.

Most likely, you won't encounter a problem with having them, but it's always good to know if you need to swap them out before inspection or something.

I personally think they look super as I have them on my TJ.

Welcome to Jeepdom. It's a rewarding hobby that turns into a part of life pretty soon.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I do appreciate the warning regarding the legality of the clear side marker. I have always owned modified Civics in the past and have done my fair share of modifications. However, to my surprise there is WAAAAY more accessories for the Jeep then I would have ever thought. I thought by getting one I would be shying away from modifications....boy was I wrong. I have already ordered the wheels/tires/clear signals and sidemarkers. Thanks for the input on the self tapping screw/side marker removal. I'll take a look under the fender. Im sure its quite easy but because I've never owned a jeep nor have I ever really had any Friends who have had them, this is all quite new. The only site I have been to thus far is JEGS.com and QUADRATEC.com. Any other sites that offer good products at reasonable prices. Eventually I want to get titanium front/rear and side step bars, a new soft top that can roll up at the front (Sunrider™) instead of completely dropping the entire top. Thanks again.

Here's a good place to go before installing your newly ordered parts from other websites. Run a search, there are tons of sites out there. Yea.. there are also tons of mods available for a Jeep... TONS... so be ready to Just Empty Every Pocket

Thanks for the sites. I'll check em out this weekend. Well because I've only owned civics in the past the tire specs Im familiar with seeing goes something like this (###/##/16). Now I know alot of the tire specs Im seeing have it going something like this (33x....)...with all of that said, I ordered:

Cragar Black SOFT 8 16X8's mounted to: 235/75/16 tires. I DO NOT plan on lifting this vehicle for fear that I will have suspension problems and less stability. Raising it isnt a huge important thing for me right now. Possibly in the future, but not now. Is this setup sufficient for a daily driving, rarely off-road used jeep?

Also, Im really trying to get used to taking off/on the soft top. I have a fear of leaving the top down when at a public place for fear something will happen....I must say though, I've had her for 3 days now and surprisingly like her as much if not more than my vics.

The Sunrider top is a good idea. That's what all soft top Unlimiteds come with and I love mine. It only takes me 2 minutes to open or close (including walking from drivers side to pass. side and back 3 times getting it straight) and it makes a big hole.

As for being paranoid about your open Jeep, go with your feelings. Get an alarm and don't leave anything of any value in it, unless you get an instatrunk. In fact, don't leave anything in it even with the top UP. they see a soft target that can be broken into with a pocket knife. My brother had the pass. widow cut open for a pair of carrharts. And the freakin' driver's door was unlocked. Just depends on the neighborhood, I guess.

Know where I can buy a reasonably priced sunrider top? I've heard that getting a lockbox is a good idea, but dont know much about them or where to buy them. As for leaving things of value inside, I dont. Sucks only being able to bring 1 cd with you at a time though
