Herculiner alternatives?

I want to put herculiner in the tub, but I'm not too crazy about covering up the paint coler. I don't have any rust (yet) and would like to keep it that way, but I don't want to get rid of the orriginal color. Are there any clear alternatives to Herculiner that anyone has used? maybe some sort of polyurethane or something?

dont know about the clear idea... but i do know that herculiner and a few of the other main bed liners come in color now.. i'm not exactly sure what color your tub is.. i think the liner colors are like black, blue, red, and grey.. but dont quote me on that

Herculiner has several other colors than black that they offer. I know they have grey, green, red, white, and maybe another one or two, not sure. But, anything other than black is pricey. The black goes around here for about $90 for the kit, the other colors are around $150.
I would like something like you are looking for, so keep us informed if you find anything. Mine is white, with the spice interior, so I don't really want black, either.

I have a Willy's edition (Moss Green). If they had a dark green or forest green, that would be ok, but one of the primary colors wouldn't look quite right.

Black would look ok. I wonder if you could mix a quart of black and a quart of green and come up with a color that would be closer to what I'm looking for. Has anyone done this??

I have a solar yellow TJ and I recently pulled all my carpet out to prep for black Herculiner. However, after pulling the carpet I found that I loved all the yellow metal showing. It reminds me of my neighbors old CJ we used to ride around in. I don't have any rust either and I already have the Herc kit, but I might wait until next summer to put it on. I hate to cover all that beautiful yellow.

Just for the record, I don't think clear would work out since you have all the prep work to do (scuffing up the paint).

you make a good point. Anyway, if I do go with Herculiner, would I have to do the entire tub, up to the rails, or is just the floor good enough? What have any of you done with it?

durabak

Use durabak. It is the same exact material as hurculiner but it comes in many, many colors. I got samples of both and they are identical. They even come with the same information on what they are made of. I am going to order the yellow durabak for my solar yellow 2k tj. The sample I got is close enough for my tastes. Good luck.

I went with the Mopar Rubberized floor liner, really like it, and a heck of a lot easier to install.

Sweet! they have a forest green that would work pretty well when the time comes.

My 98 Sahara is "moss green", and in the pics on the durabak site, the "forest green" looked pretty close....but it came out very bright in comparison...I put the carpet back over it LOL.....I might paint it in "spice" though....

I had Line X sprayed in mine. Mine is an 05 so the green is "Deep Beryl Green", and I went with just black Line X. It came out great, but it is much more exspensive than Herculiner, but you do get what you pay for. Here is a pic of the black floor and green outside:

It is very pricey, I just looked into this the other day. NAPA said their price was $130 a gallon, but because of the way it is shipped from the factory, they had to buy it a case at a time, so not too many people around here want red herculiner he would charge me $150 a kit. With that being said, I don't think black would look thatbad after all.
