HELP with fuel line specs to convert to Fuel Cell??
I have a '97 Jeep Wrangler SE and am in the process of taking out my stock gas tank and switching to a Summit Racing Fuel Cell that fits behind the rear seat. It's a 15 gallon tank and it says it comes with -8 AN outlet and return fitting size. I called the Jeep dealer and the guy said he thinks the fuel line I have now is a 3/8 in size, he didn't seems too sure though. Does anyone know what size my stock fuel line is and what is needed to convert it? Will I need new fuel lines? And will I need an aftermarket fuel gauge or will the GM style(0-90 ohms) work with my stock Jeep fuel gauge? Thanks for all help y'all...

This is one way to do it:
Install a fuel cell in a late model TJ - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board I thought about doing this for awhile, but decided against it. One of the TJ's biggest negatives is it's lack of storage room inside. So there goes more of your storage. One of the TJ's best features is it's great departure angle. So you'd be improving something that- IMO, does not need a whole lot of improving. You'll also get fumes inside the cab if you do not vent it right, it raises your COG, and costs as much as an aftermarket gas tank skid. Unless you plan on stretching the wheel base, I wouldn't fool with it. Just my opinion though.

The hard fuel line is 3/8 inch and Russell Automotive makes a -6an to hard line adapter. I have used these before. They are made of aluminum and anodized. They have different styles depending on if the tube has the normal push on fitting or you need to use it on a standard round tube. They can also be male style if the tube is the female style(ford). Here is the part number of the style I use 640940
Hope this helps. |

just put together a list of (IMO) the most helpful TJ RCI installs out there, hopefully a few of those will assist in answering any other issues you might have
