Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to Jeep's and I'm planning on changing out my differential fluid this weekend.
I don't have any jack stands, and I'd like to know if I have limited slip or not before I go out and buy my fluid. So, I tried to read the tag. It;s incredibly hard to read, but I can make out-

I've tried looking through the dana bill of material identifier website but I haven't really found anything, I'm not sure which numbers would be my Bill of Material #. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The first line is the Jeep part number is for a Dana 44 rear with drum brakes, 3.73 gearing and LSD.
The second line should start 3.73, I don't remember what the other numbers mean. An LSD axle normally has a second tag which could have rotted stating to use LSD additive.
Thank you for your info!
Strange... I've got disc brakes in the rear, and I've calculated my gearing to be 3.07.
Could you explain how you came to your conclusion? I'm curious.
I googled the part number. Didn't get results with the two letters on the end so knocked them off and added the word jeep to narrow down search results.
I can double check it in the morning in the parts lists.

You could just change out the gear oil, once you have the covers pulled you'll see if it's LSD or open. Then if it's LSD fill slightly less than full with gear oil, then just run and get the additive, won't hurt it to run a few miles without the LSD additive. In most cases in a 11 year old vehicle the clutches in the LSD are worn out anyway
Huh, maybe my odometer / tachometer isn't reading right. I'm running 31" tires and I read almost exactly on 2000RPM @ 60MPH. I thought I checked if it was possible to come with 3.07 on a Dana 44 in a TJ model, and for some reason I believed 3.73 was an optional specification. Oh well! Thanks for the help. :cheers2:
Found the number in the 06 parts list in the Housing,Rear Axle,Dana 44/226MM [DRK] section.
Last letter is different so there was some kind of revision between the parts listing and the one fitted to your TJ.
[DME,BRW,DSA] Tag 52114045AD
[DME]=Axle Ratio - 3.73
[BRW]=Brakes - 4-Wheel Disc (-I obviously misread that from what I looked at on my phone last night).
[DSA]=Axle - Trac-Lok Differential
How did you check your speed? If the speedo gear hasn't been changed the speedo could be incorrect.
The gear calculator at http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html shows 59 MPH at 2000 RPM, NSG370 (in 6th gear), 31 inch tyres and 3.73 gears.
Huh, I guess the website I was using didn't account for which gear I was in. I can't post a url, but it only had 4 variables. RPM, Tire Diameter, MPH and Gear Ratio.
Just because the tires say 31 on the sidewalk does not mean they are actually 31 inches in diameter. That and the chance that your speedo could be off would mean your method of checking gear ratio isn't going to work.
The speedo is off. Even when calibrated, what the PCM reads as 60mph is different than what the needle points to on the instrument panel.
