i was driving and i got stuck in a part a plow didnt get to and i took it out of 4 wheel low and put it into 4 wheel high for more power and after i got out i wanted to drive faster so i went to put it back and it only goes into nuetral it is stuck in 4 wheel high or neutral. i dont know what to do. i have a 5-spd 97 wrangler if that helps. anyone think maybe its frozen? cause there is a good deal of snow stuck under there.

break away the snow, but as i recall the system is run using vcum lines...perhaps you pulled one loose witht he snow (i may be wrong about it having vacum lines though)

Will the jeep not physically allow yuou to put it into 2wd?

I would try rolling backwards and see if you can do it then with the jeep out of gear.

Also Be careful breaking away the snow and see if you can see anything broken.

I live in NJ so I feel your Pain...

Ok you have to shift the little handle to the right or left to get out of neutral..I almost freaked out the first time I did this. Make sure you are using the shift pattern correctly

if it has vacum lines wich engage the 4wd system ( i think they use this...)

they should be small black air tubes (vacum tubing) one could have popped off from soemwhere...

once again i stand to be corrected

Hehe, they ditched the vacuum lines in 95..

mysweetfracture: Hopefully the problem is a linkage issue. As cold and wet as it is, take a peak under the Jeep and check out the Acme Cartoon Lever system they used. If it came loose or was set incorrectly, you'll have a hard time shifting the T-case. You can maunaully switch it from there if needed.

90% of the problems are there. Otherwise the issue is inside.

Under the Jeep you should see the Linkage next to the transfer case right where the Lever goes through the floor. Don't force the lever from the inside but make sure you are pushing it the right way when you are trying to get the Jeep back into 4wd high or 2wd. Without being in My Jeep I believe you pull the lever towards you from the inside from Neutral

Have someone sit inside the Jeep and toggle the 4x4 level, you'll see how it all mechanically works.

Linkage system

Screw that usually needs adjustment.
