heater vent problems

I have a 04 TJ that the heater vent control stopped switching between vent options.

Switched to the flow through option when I was using the ac. Went to change back to defrost in the morning and it didn't change even tho the knob moved. Knob moved with no resistance/clicking.

Is this a common problem?

Is it possible that something came unhooked?

How to fix?

Pull the knob off (it pulls straight off, may have to pry it a bit with a screwdriver). See if there is any obvious damage.

If there's nothing wrong visibly, the shaft may have come loose inside the switch. It's not hard to pull the whole unit apart.

Sounds like you may have a cracked knob where it attaches to the switch post...

I looked at the knob first. Saw nothing ( didn't have glasses on).
Called around and found that if it was a control issue, the whole assembly ( fan, heat/cold, and vent ) would have to be replaced at a cost of about $95 ( after market )
Decided to look at the knob again ( thanks JEK3) and did see some cracks on the plastic. Used some pliers and realized that the control part worked.

Thanks
