HD Diff Cover vs. Diff Skid

I was at off-roading at Rausch Creek on Monday and went through some decent water with the Jeep. Ended up dunking the hood for a second through one of the puddles, checked the intake and had no water there tho. But I figure I'll change out the diff fluid since they saw a good amount of water. While I'm at it, I figure I'll put on some protection.

My question is whether there is any benefit of going with a HD differential cover rather than just a skid. I've been leaning towards the Warn skids. Any reason to reconsider this?

i wheeled at rausch in june, and came back w/ a few dings on both my diff housings... i have rockrushers, which only are a cover... i kinda wish i had a skid that protected the pumpkin underneath a little bit, maybe it wouldt have gotten hit so hard on all those rocks!!

If I can pull it off, Nth pumpkin sliders are what I'd like to go with.

Anyone besides Nth make sliders for the pumpkins??

I ordered one of the Rock-it differential gliders and should get it today.

I can't comment on its effectiveness yet, but my problem has been that I'm dragging the pumpkin over everything and actually wearing off the bottom of the diff cover sealing surface, the actual cast part of the pumpkin. I looked at the Nth Degree sliders, but they don't actually protect that lip on a D44 axle.

I agree. Right now I'm looking to protect just the covers. The other issue may be that I am stock so I need to make sure that any skid or HD cover won't interfere with the steering components up front nor the gas tank in the rear.

Probably the best reason to just get a guard. Many after market cover will have a higher fill plug as well. Downside is mud and small animals get trapped between the cover and the guard.

I won a guard from jeeperscreepers that has taken some hard hits and is nice, but would look for a american made one is I was going to buy.

Don't forget longer bolts.

Warn skids are inexpensive and they work well for light wheeling. But they trap a lot of mud & stuff against the diff cover. Also, they dent! Mine are a bit mangled from Rausch wheeling so that's something to consider. I'm by no means hardcore, and I've managed to bash them in.
