Broke a Dana 35c R&P and gear case together with an axle shaft with 33" tires and a locker on the street, and broke a stock Dana 30 passenger-side axle shaft with 35" tires and a locker on a very tough trail (Sledgehammer in JV).

I am a CNC Machinist and have had some great opportunities in the past to build some awesome equipment. I have made ring and pinion gears and been in on the heat treat process and grinding. I have made axles and carrier housings. I no longer work in that field but it was fun.

but I did learn an industry secret that I will let you all in on.........

the single greatest cause of all equipment failure is.........

PEER PRESSURE

because if no one was watching I wouldnt have tried it

I broke my D35 on 31s while driving down the road. I broke my D30 locked on 35s bouncing off a stump in reverse uphill. I think I deserved that one.

broke a locked D35 with 34" super sampers being careless and also falling into peer pressure ...broke about 3 teeth off of the ring gear. After doing that i thought hell might as well just swap it with a dana 44 and iv been okay ever since

P.S to anyone wanting to buy a rear detroit locker for a D35 with 30 spline shafts that came from this whole mess; im selling the combo for $500/obo. i live in Colonia NJ (central NJ) and need to get rid of this thing already! its pick up only and please call or text me (tony) at 908-463-9179 at anytime to those interested. sorry for the plug in!

I stripped the splines off of the passenger side axle on the rear of my Cherokee. D35, 4.10, open diff and 33's. I was on the road and about to accelerate into traffic. Not a terribly aggressive start. So now it is front wheel drive for a while...I'll pretend it is a Compass.

The splines on the axle were badly worn. $60.00 at Pick n Pull, and the old girl is back on the road.
