How much does a hard top for a TJ (not an unlimited) weigh?

I am going to bump this thread, because it is the exact same question I have. Except I need to know how much the hardtop for an unlimited weighs.

The reason for asking is I am designing a lift for my garage to lift my hardtop off by pulleys and a motor. I need the precise weight because this project is doubling as a school assignment in my dynamics class.

Any help is appreciated.

Does anyone have the exact weight of a unlimited hardtop? Or know what would be a good resource to find this information out.

Clearly it's heavier, but not by much. The majority of the weight is in the rear glass and hardware. The few extra inches of length won't add much - I doubt it weighs 10 lbs more than the TJ top.

So as a comparison, what does the factory soft top weigh? (complete top-including hardware)

Just curious about if I ever go to a soft top how much weight I'm saving back there.

Pretty light. My top with frame seems to weigh around 5lbs... Add the door surrounds and windows and you're up to 10lbs. Or so it seems, but I'd bet it's under 20lbs all total.

i don't know that its quite 5 lbs light. There is a noticeable difference in the weight of a top between a regular and a sailcloth. My '03 top feels much heavier than my '00 top

I do agree that its probably around 20 lbs total.

So, as BLACKAL posted I should assume the weight to be 165 lbs? I might make it 200 lbs just in case.

I just took the hardtop off for summer and put my soft top on. The rear of my Jeep lifted up 1 full inch!! I guess 140 lbs can drop or lift the rear 1".

I noticed something similar with my Jeep. After my hardtop being off for a full week, i haven't actually measured it, but the rear looks taller.

I have exactly 8" of space from the top of my front tire to the fender flare in the front and now about 9 1/2" from the top of my rear tire to the fender flare. It will be even more when I put in the 8.8 soon. People have said this raises the rear even more, between 1/2-3/4"!! I guess I might have to switch my front RE 3.5 springs for a set of RE 4.5's here shorlty cuz of the bumper and winch that is going on!! Anyone have a pair of front RE 4.5 in newish condition they wanna trade for some front 3.5's??
