Hard top with two sunroofs?
Hey folks. I'm going to be getting a hard top for my 02 TJ and I've seen the Autoport sunroof kits at Quadratech. Has anyone tried installing one of these for both the front and rear like I've seen on some Land Rover models? During the long winter months up here, it would be great to get all that light in and still be warm. I'm just concerned the top isn't stiff enough to support two.

Yep, it works!
![]() ![]() The aluminum trim from the sunroof actually stiffened the top a bit. FYI, this is an LJ top but these are also the biggest sunroofs I could find.

I have plenty of pics, but almost none with the hardtop on!
I don't have any good shots of the roof from the outside. The hardtop is wrapped in a tarp sitting in a stand tucked behind my garage so I won't have any for a while. Sorry! The sunroofs are basically flush with the roof and since they are tinted the sunroofs blend in very well.

i really like this idea..how much air does it let in at highway speeds?im looking for as much "open air" feeling as possible without switching to a soft top.was the carpet used to cover up the brackets or just cosmetic? also does the carpet help with road noise?
also is the glass removable with the autoport kits? |

the glass is completely removable. i was going to build a wind deflector (i had this on a different removable sunroof on a previous vehicle) to limit the amount of air that gets in but frankly i only have the hardtop on during the winter, so i rarely have the sunroofs out. even without the deflector it isn't too bad.
i actually added sound insulating foam to take up the depth of the sunroof bracket, and then carpeted over that. it really cuts down on wind noise. i can talk normally to a passenger while cruising at 70!

COOOOLLLL!!!!!!
I've been thinking of doing the same thing but TJ's top is not flat like YJ's. It has these "ribs?" and the sun roof wouldn't sit right(at least that's what i thought). Whenever it is convinient to you a pic from the "top of the top" whould be great! |

The ribs were an issue, but it just took a little more careful grinding to get everything to seal well. I carefully cut the main hole which the trim overlaps and then carefully dremeled the ridges down until they were just past the outside of the lip. Using plenty of RTV on both the underside to fill in the gap and around the lip and I haven't had a single problem. The only leaks come from the rear sunroof (the seal between the trim and the sunroof), twice i've seen a few drips make it in during a rain/ice storm. considering i drive with the top and doors off in the rain during the summer it doesn't bother me one bit!
