Mine does this to me alot, 90% of the time I have to shift into first then go into reverse and sometimes I can try to shift into reverse and release the clutch halfway and it will fall into gear.

BTW Welcome to the Forum, and best of luck!

Hahah and I thought mine had clutch problems but now I know I'm not the only one having a hard time with reverse! Thinking on updating my transmission and hopefully that will be solved.

There's no synchronizer for reverse.Shift into a forward gear and then into reverse to ease the grinding.

I have the same problem with my 6 speed. Sometimes it will go straight in, sometimes I have to let the clutch out a bit, and when I'm in a hurry I just slam it home an hit the shifter on the console.
Maybe when I get rid of the TC drop it will fix it. Until then....... I just take it easy when backing up.

Mine does the same thing...always has. I have to go into first gear then into reverse to avoid the grinding. Even with a new clutch still does the same thing.

This is common, if you drive a jeep get use to it. As stated above no syncro' on reverse gear. So! grind it till you find it, or do the procedure stated above by boogie.

But it cant be put in reverse even when it grinds a little. It is almost thats it is not any reverse there. When I push the shifter back into reverse and let out the clutch nothing happends. I must stop the engine or if I give full trottle sometime it goes into reverse. I dont understand whats wrong.

Hello, my first time posting. I've had the same issue on my 95 YJ before my 5 speed transmission was rebuilt and since then. I've gotten used to it. When it doesn't want to go in, I put it in first and let out the clutch until it just starts to engage, then try it again. That usually works for me. Other than that, shifting is very smooth so for me, it turns out to be a very minor issue. Of course, that's me and my jeep, which may not work for everyone...

Is it grinding when you first try to engage Reverse?

Glad to know this is a common issue and likely not going to cause future issues since mine does this too

Does what? Is your complaint that it grinds when you shift into Reverse?

No it usually doesn't grind but sometimes I have to shift to first before R. It doesn't happen often but from time to time. Normally it shifts perfectly.
