Handling Improvement, Can TJ=JK?

I test drove a TJ and a JK.
The JK road handling was good.
The TJ road handling was something that I would not let the kids drive. The salesman said the insurance costs did not reflect my observations.
However, there are a lot of things about the TJ that I like.
So, have any of you TJ'ers on this site found the magic fixes that will transform the handling into something less scary?
4 Wheel and Off Road magazine has a plenty of advertisers that will sell us plenty of parts but which work best and cheapest?
Any observations?

R

Tj's are not scary to drive. THe simple answer is that there was something wrong with the one you test drove (more info would help.............was it stock, lifted, etc etc

Flatty,
It was new and stock.
Have you driven a JK yet and felt the difference?
Sometimes newer is better.

My 97 has a 4" lift and drives fine. My 17 year old son has been driving it for a year and has had no problems. I spent some time driving it with him and discussing the different handling characteristics but I don't worry about him driving it.

Is the TJ stock? My lifted TJ drives great and isn't scary at all, however your story reminds me of one of the other used TJ's I drove on the lot while I was looking. It was lifted and had bigger tires.....it always seemed like I was trying to keep it from driving off the road. Get a stock one if you can so when you lift it you know it's done right.

You are asking for advice but aren't really saying what you didn't like other than you wouldn't let the kids drive it and it was scary. Nobody can really answer your question unless you give us more detail about what you were doing and what you didn't like about how the Jeep reacted.

If you like the JK so much then buy it and don't look back. They are a little too "polite" for my taste and probably other people too. To each their own.

Both a TJ and a JK will roll. If I wanted a safe vehicle for a teenager, I'd want something low to the round, big and slow.

But anyway, my TJ drives/ steers just fine. Feels fine on the streets and highway.

My LJ handles great, on & off road. And I won't let the kids drive it either. Kids are much scarier than the heep

No I have not and I dont doubt that a JK may handle better BUT you said the TJ was so scary that you wouldnt let your children drive it. With that said it only leaves 2 options something was/is wrong with that TJ or your exagerating (a lot)

Apples to watermellons......that's funny.

If you want, you can drive my 3A.....Mister Toads wild ride baby.... You will find more appreciation for a TJ's handling. My TJ drives great, but I won't let my daughter drive it.......she's got her own.
