Hand Throttle for Automatic Transmission

Before you all think I am nuckin futz. I need it to increase RPM while I am running my OBA. Question is How would you run the cable outside since there is no shifter boot?

I am looking for suggestions. Possibly somebody has already done this modification and can enlighten me.

Thanks in advance,

I recently reinstalled my old 5-speed's hand throttle back onto my new B&M automatic shifter after converting to an automatic. My shifter cable went through a hole I made in the rubber boot but the hand throttle cable can also be inserted down through the little slot in front of where the OE shifter lever goes through. There's a bit of a bend in the cable but not enough so the handle is stiff or binds at all.

While two reasons I reinstalled it was to hold engine rpms higher for winching and OBA use, the primary reason was it makes crawling over the rocks a lot easier and smoother. The last couple trails I used it on were sweet indeed, it allows much smoother application of power on really bumpy rough trails. Even with an automatic.

Thanks for the picture. Mine is all still in stock form. I guess I need to find a way to do it with out the cable binding.

It shouldn't bind even with the stock shifter if you are careful to route it properly. You should also be able to drill a hole through the bottom of the shifter floor plate to pass the cable through.

Again thanks for the help. What about getting it through the console itself?

I live about 12 miles or so from RE. I am just going to go over there and get it from them.

Do you have a pic of how you hooked it to the throttle body?

I too have an automatic. I use mine for a steady throttle on rough terrain and to increase my RPMs during winching or for my air compressor. I went a different route when I installed mine - it's close to my hand between the 2 and 3 o'clock positon on my steering wheel. When I'm outside, I can easily reach in to adjust the RPMs.

I like that idea. What did you mount it to?

I was walking through Home Depot looking for an ideal mount and I found it in a black drawer/cabinet handle. I just bought a handle with the largest diameter.

That is a great idea. Gives me ideas of other places I could mount it other than on the shifter.
