Nonya, either put your research where your mouth is or stop your yammering. Even the Blackstone oil analysis report I already gave you a link to above talks about the good test results from 75W-90 Mobil-1 in an axle.

YOU claimed there was stuff all over the web yet I didn't find it when I searched. If you want to continue claiming that, then YOU give us the links. Afterall, it was you who said "If you do some searching on the net its very common problem with m1 75-90".

I thought I was too but I forgot... I just got around to checking my PMs this morning and I saw your message. I'm leaving again for work tomorrow AM but I'll be back in a couple days and I should be able to pull it then. I'm still fine sending it to you, I need all the good Karma I can get.

Well, I'm throwing in the towel. I pulled the rear diff cover, and had plenty of oil and no chipped teeth. I did, however, notice some metal shavings on the plug. I'm out of ideas, so it's up to the stealership figure it out.

The dealership gave me their best guess today. They think it's bearings within the rear diff. Their recommendations, Option 1: If I want to, I can just have them replace the bearings, but if that doesn't fix it, I've wasted a lot of money on nothing. Option 2: I can have them overhaul the entire diff for $1800. Option 3: I can replace the entire rear end for a mere $1900 parts and labor. How bad am I getting gouged!?!

Originally, I had planned to have an Eaton E-Locker installed in the rear next spring, but with this little complication, it doesn't make sense to wait. I'm currently waiting for them to quote me the cost to fix the problem and install the E-Locker at the same time. We'll see how much they want gouge me for that.

If you have to have differential work done run from that dealer. You can get it done for less and get quality work as well.

Anywhere else in the country, I'd say you're right, and I wouldn't step foot anywhere near the dealership. Pinedale, WY is a small town 100 miles from the closest reasonable and capable mechanic. I have three mechanic options here in town. Mechanic #1 (and the guy I'd prefer to do the work) runs a shop that is primarily a tire shop, and doesn't have the tools to disassemble a differential. Mechanic #2 is the dealership. Mechanic #3 is a shop locally renown for royally screwing it's costomers. I had a friend take a subaru there, and they charged $60/hour labor on top of charging $700 for a part they admittedly purchased from Napa....a part that could be purchased directly from Napa for $300. No Thanks! So, unfortunately it's the dealership by default.

for 1800 bucks you can nearly buy an axle with locker, chromos and your choice of locker and install it yourself

Id drive 100 miles every day to save a thousand dollars or more of my hard earned money. You should too unless you dont have secondary transportation or something. YOu could still save big bucks after the cost of a rental car

What should it cost to have a shop rebuild a rear diff? I really don't have the setup to do it myself, so I'm stuck having someone else do it. If I do some calling around, what price range should I be looking at to have this done?

The other option would be to purchase a used rear end from a salvage yard, call in a favor or two, and swap the entire thing myself.
