Grant4x4 Swing-Out Tire Carrier

Ebay Auction

Anyone running this? How do you like it? How has it held up?

It seems like a well built unit from I can tell in the pictures.

I have his bumpers only, not the tire carrier. I can tell you both of my bumpers were well built and are plenty beefy. The D-Ring tabs are indeed through wleded as advertised. The bumpers painting/powdercoating was OK, not heavy at all, but I just touch up with a rattle can as need be. Also, I was promised the same "Usually ships in 3 dyas or less", but mine was more like 3 weeks to get here.

Does the rear bumper just bolt to the cross-member or does it have frame tie-in's.?

i like it if it has frame tie-ins for all that weight, my warn tire swing has 14 grade 8 bolts holding it in. Also the tire holder looks a little weak, are those bolts sticking out to hold it???

That seems like a good set-up!! I really like the price. If I was employed at the monment I think I would have to bid against you on it. I couldn't tell if they stated how thick the steel was though, but from the looks of it, it should be a good investment.

I would inquire with him about the frame tie-ins for the carrier. My bumper only did not come with them, just squar blocks to go behind the crossmember and spread the load slightly. I tow a small utility trailer with mine and felt more comfortable having tie-ins back there, so I added a set for peace of mind. I think he does include tie'ins for the carrier, but as I said earlier, I'd probably confirm that with him. I've dealt with him by phone and email and he's usually pretty responsive.

Frame Tie-in's are an additional $35.00 and to add tube corner protection to the bumper is an additional $20.00.

Stupid question... but, since I am seriously thinking about ordering Grant bumpers, what are frame tie-ins and where and how do they mount to the frame. Anyone have any pics? TIA

It ties the bumper directly to the frame. He doesnt have a picture but here is a jeeperman tie in kit to give you an idea.

Are the holes already in the frame for the tie ins or do you have to drill?

Good review. I ended up getting the regular bumper/tire carrier. Mine has to be lifted up to close also. I'll try the hilift trick. I agree with everything you said. Especially re the paint. Mine came in good shape but not too good of a paint job. I took it to my local line-x place and had it coated. Very happy with it. Only problem I've run into is because of my stupid a$$ body lift, my hilift can't be mounted on it because it hits my rear lights. (anyone want to give me $600 and help me change to a susp lift? ) I'm making an extension to raise the mount just a bit. I'm thinking about the front bumper from Grant now.
