Well, I've had my Jeep for 3 weeks now and decided is was time to do something to it. So, since mine were horribly faded I decided to paint the flares as a real first project.
Here is what it first looked like when i got it (notice the faded flares and chipped up mirrors)...
Here is the full body shot after pulling off the masking (notice the new Gun Metal mirrors as well).
And a close up of the flares...

Last pic will not load, also what type of paint and what color did you use. Looks awesome by the way, I think once the weather breaks up here in the north I will be doing the same thing.

That looks so much better. I plan on painting my mirrors as well, what paint did you use? Did you spray paint the flares?

The last pic loaded for me...is anyone else having problems with it?
I used the Krylon Fusion everyone is raving about. Supposed to require no prep work whatsoever...we'll see!
I used the Stain finish Krylon Fusion.
I was going to take the flares off but decided it would be WAY too much of a hassle so I just masked around them, pulled out the front side blinkers and sprayed away (I did take the small ones off so I could get the entire front flares).
Before spraying I wiped down the flares and let them dry. I ended up using 3 coats and am real happy with the turn out! Now we'll see if this Krylon Fusion is as good as everyone says!
But then again...even if I have to repaint every other year it was only likr $3.50 a can at Wal-mart and you could get away doing the entire thing with 1 can. VERY cheap project!
After checking it out I noticed that my gas cap doesn't look as good now...will probably pull that out and paint it with the Krylon next weekend

Did you use the Krylon Fusion for the mirrors too or did you paint those?

I have several questions for those who have done this with Fusion...
Does the paint fill the pebble grain on the flairs? Or does the grain still come through?
And the leading edge of my back flairs are pitted from rocks...has anyone sanded them first, or just painted over the nicks? How did they turn out?

very impressive. Of course if I do that to my flares, then it will only go and make the rest of my paint job look 1000x worse than it already does, forcing me to have my whole tub redone =D

Has anyone done this on another color jeep? I have a black wrangler and was wondering if there would be a difference in the shades of black causing a weird contrast. Anyway, its a great idea and the pics look awsome. Definitly a good way to clean them up, and a lot cheaper than new ones!!

I refuse to buy new ones..... too damn expensive, when you can paint them and have them look new.

I just did mine w/ Dupli Color truck bed liner spray on. Looks great. I've done many other areas of the Jeep with this same stuff. Very fine textured, satin finish, extremely chip resistant. Also much easier to touch up than other paint. Also, it hides most scratches and small nicked areas.
