Golen 4.6 or LS1/4L60 Any advice/ideas?
I'm considering a teardown of my TJ. I am thinking of a couple of options. First, a Golen 4.6 and a swap to an AW4. Does anyone have this combo? I'm asking because I am unsure of the AW4s ability to handle the power of the 4.6. I currently have a TF999 and know that it will handle it easily, but I'm wanting an OD trans to keep the RPM down on the hiway.
Next is an LS1 or a 5.3 GM V8 swap along with the 4L60 trans adapted to my 231. I have been doing some reading and just starting to really research this swap. I know its more $$$ and will require a lot more fabrication, but that V8 would be oh so sweet. Novak Conversions website is very imformative and covers a lot of FAQ about the swap. They also claim that the GM swap is easier to do than a Hemi. This I'm not quite sure of and will require some more reading. I'm open to all suggestions and advice from folks who have any of the combos that I've mentioned. Like I said, I'm just starting to get my ideas together and collect info about it. Thanks

What about the smog laws there, cali is very hard on engine swap smog. With a stroker you would not have to worry about smog.

I would think you are going to have more issues with an LS1 or Big V8 with your NP231 rather than the tranmission. The AX15 and AW4 are pretty stout even though the syncro's suck in the AX15.
