Going On a Trip

Now i know i wont do much wheeling, just the old dirt roads and old logging and fire roads in beautiful Chester, CA. Im not going to be going hardcore but i do not have a spare, AND i do not have a hi-lift. I know thats not very smart but if im just going on the roads and old dirt roads what all should i bring with me to prepare. I will be the only vehicle that will be venturing out....Im a rookie at it all so any guidance is greatly appreciated.

never wheel alone, if something happens your screwed, you dont need a hi-lift, i have one and used it twice, once cause noone else had a jack and once to remove my steering wheel, get a full size spare and a winch

You didn't have to mention that, as your going without a spare that part is obvious

I'd never spend good money an an 8000 lb wench, she needs to be in a different line of work!

A) Going out alone is not smart
B) Going out alone without a spare is even less smart

If you are intent on not getting a winch and going out alone with no spare, then about all I could suggest is to carry a first aid kit (you should anyway when wheeling) bring drinking water and stay within cell phone reception, or at least take note where your cell phone reception ends so that if something does happen you can call for help.

Sam, it looks like you have a nice LJ! I took a Jeep trip to Colorado a year ago, and I did exploring on my own, including on several fairly rough trails for my AT tires. There were other Jeeps in the area, which was good to know incase I needed help. Along with a spare, I had a tire repair kit and electric pump, oil, extra water and food, basic tool kit, a cell phone/ CB, and l made it out fine. Just take it easy and use common sense. The roads sound like they won't be that tough anyway. Have fun and don't forget the camera.

Let's see...no winch, no spare, newbie at off-roading...get a US Army survival guide, a signal mirror, and some sort of fire starting device. I'd also let someone know when you're due back. Get a serrated knife; if you have to cut your own arm off, it will make things easier.

And yea, what you're planning is not smart at all; at least pony up for a freakin spare tire. I'll be checking the Darwin awards to see how you're trip goes though.

well, its nice to see people have the common decency to not be an ***. Im not stupid, i was an eagle scout and can live on my own for a given amount of days without proper supplies.

i was looking for an answer for what id bring. not sarcastic answers. i plan on getting a spare...winch just isnt feasable right now..

thanks for the FEW who were decent and gave me answers. i would hope some of you dont talk to your animals the way you talk to people.

its not wheeling, its more like driving down a dirt road and dirt trails that were once inhabited

You will be fine, just as mentioned bring common sense items, water, phone, first aid kit and maybe food. If your Jeep was to break down and you had to hike out what would you need? Bring those items. If your not going far out, then probably don't need much.

I've gone on overnight trips where we go 25+ miles out (trail miles not as the crow flys) on easy trails and we load the Jeeps with supplies like we are going to war.
