GenRight hood louvers install
I have marked and drilled the attaching holes for the louvers on the hood. I'm now ready for cutting. I have a jig saw which I think is perfect for the side louvers.
My question is about the center louver. Do I cut the part of the metal above the inside hood frame? If so how can I cut it with the jig saw without cutting part of the frame? Or should I just cut on both sides of it and get it over with?

So I have to take the whole piece out? I have to go buy a cutoff wheel... Any advice on that? I'm only going to use it for this job. Should I just get the cheapest one I can find?

I am doing this in the next couple of days, my plan was to use a grinder with a very skinny metal cutting wheel,
to the OP, try the jig saw on the back 2 louvers and show me how it looks without the one in the front, might look better..

Be very careful with the wife mod. Uninstallation can be extremely expensive. Wife mods have been known to take the Jeep and all other mods during the uninstall process. Also, make sure you service your wife mod properly as often as humanly possible. Wife mods not properly serviced may malfunction or uninstall themselves at any time.

You mean just use two pieces of the louvers... Just place them on your hood and look at it
I will most likely finish cutting those tonight and will post some pictures for you when I'm done

I have one of those... Can I use it instead of the cutoff wheel? atleast for the part above the inner frame?
Oh but I need a bit that would cut through metal. How about if I use that dremel bit with a power drill instead of the dremel? Would that work faster or easier?
If it would I would finish all three pieces tonight

ya Ive mocked them up and looked at the different configurations, just wanted to see how yours turned out
my advice would be to make sure the passenger louver is NOT directly over the battery or fuse box just to help keep any rain from leaking on to it

No, just get a mandrel and some cut off wheels for your Dremel tool. I picked up the whole kit at Lowe's for less than $20.

I fixed them in this exact location as in this picture...
As for the water going in I am planning on fabricating some sort of a drain pan under the louvers that would direct water away from the electric parts. Don't know how exactly but I'm working on it

Oops! : Well, I would order that kit from mytoolstore.com for future projects.
You should be able to get a mandrel and cutting wheels for a drill at a hardware store.

ya I was also considering a home made type of scoop for the inside of the hood, let me know if you go that route and what works!

dont cut the center support, just lightly cut across the top do as not to cut the center support out, otherwise you just messed up your hood. and dont worry about drain pans, what little water actually makes it into your engine bay will not effect anything electronic. after you have the piece cut out just pull it out, that center support has a glue material applied between the hood and center support

What he said. Spray paint the crossbar black before riveting the louver in place though otherwise you'll see the dirt and **** through the hood.
