Gearing for 05 Rubicon unlimited and 35's

Ok I have read a couple of these threads but I am seeing conflicting information. I have a 2005 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 6 spd manual on 35's and it is in need of regearing. Its not a daily driver but I drive it to spots to wheel as far as 9 hours away so highway manners are at least somewhat important to me. My goals are:

Slow down 4 low 1st gear
Better take off
Better mileage (Pipedream)

What should I put in it?

I'd go with 4.88's.

Yea I'm between that and the 4.56s. At the moment I'm leaning toward the 4.88s.

I dunno, with long highway drives between you and your trailheads, I'd go with the 4.56.

Trail and city only, 4.88 all the way, but that's a little tall for a 9-hour drive.

if you take it easy on the trail 4.56... you are going to get better hwy manners with the 4.56 and you wont notice that big of a dif with the rubicon transfer case. if you wheel hard and ever want bigger tires (which you might) get the 4.88s. i run 4.88s with 35s and a 231j tc and i can start out in 3rd in 2wd bro. i have not used 1st gear in 2wd since i got them. they are amazing on the trail. but, if you are worried about highway manners at all get the 4.56s. it really does not matter what you get tho cause you will want the other once you get it. its just human nature.

I like mine better with stock gearing after going up to 35 inch tires. 4.10s and 31 inch tires was wayyy too low gearing. With the bigger tires, it runs about 2500 for 70 mph. I now use 1st gear (high range) to start off. When it was stock, I'd take off in 2nd, then 4th, then 6th gear, skipping all the rest. Now 6th is like overdrive. But OP said he didnt like it like this, so.....I'm wasting his time. Sorry.

Now I am thinking 4.56s I will likely keep the 35s for at least a year or two. the 4.56s should still be a dramatic improvment over stock and still maintain drivability so they make sense.

Now what to buy to do this? I havent done the swap before but I had never rebuilt a motor before the first time I did it either... I'm open to recomendations. I don't mind spending a little more for better quality within reason.

Gears are the one job you want to leave to a shop, to be honest.

If you look, there are plenty of guides that show you how, and I'd try on a trail toy, but the slightest mistake can grenade your diff. Not something I'd want to risk on a highway vehicle.

this is a very true statement, i tried to do my own and the first set did not work out so well, but the second set has been running like a champ, i just eyeballed mine in the driveway... i am however, not very confident in the integrity of it-as i would be if it was done by a shop with all the right tools...

It's very different from rebuilding an engine, and while I applaud the confidence and can-do attitude and generally avoid discouraging DIY efforts, this is one of those things best left to someone who has the tools and experience to be able to do it in their sleep, IMO. In case it's not been mentioned, be sure to have him (her? ) get all the parts, too, so that there can be no finger pointing of something doesn't go well.

With the NSG370 and 35's you will like the 4.88's. I highway cruise at 75 in 6th gear. I don't use first unless I'm off road.

I would go with 4.88s

I have 4.88s with 33s and a 5 speed, perfect right now but when I step up to 35s or 37s I'm gonna be wishing for deeper gears again.

95 xj bone stock for now
