I ended up not going out of town this week so I was able to finish up the Crate today. I Just got to take it the the shipping terminal, you should have it sometime next week.

MORE EYE CANDY

Front Spider 9 housing just came in from Currie today!
I had Currie weld on all the brackets and inner C’s. They did a really nice job!

I would like to go bigger but the budget would not allow it. To do 37's or 39's correctly you need to do 1 ton brakes, 1 ton custom high steering, some kind of hydro assist, and upgraded transmission cooling etc… The list really gets big once you go past that 35 tire size. It seems that the 35 tire size is a nice sweet spot for off-road performance and street usability.

I got the rear RockCrusher HP60 for $2,000 and sold my rear 44 for $1,200 so I am into the rear HP 60 for $800 doing a super 44 in the rear with ARB would cost $1,500 alone and then I would have dumped major cash into a 44. I know the rear HP60 would be better suited for bigger tires but the RockCrusher housing only hangs .5 inch lower than the 44 housing and has a nice flat bottom to it. If I had my choice I would have gone with a spider 9 (much lighter than the HP60) but I could not pass up the deal on the HP60.

As for the front axle I went back and forth on what route to go. I was going to get a used HP30 but I told myself that I would not put a ton of cash into a Dana 30. Then I decided to go the Spider 9 route. I used stock Dana 30 inner C’s to save the cash from going 1 ton. I know that my weak link is going to be the u-joints but that is not such a bad thing. I would rather change a front axle shaft than blow up the ring and pinion in a D30. The front Spider 9 should handle 35’s no problem with Chromalloy shafts and spicer u-joints. Future mods might be locking hubs and CTM’s.

Some may say that using stock TJ knuckles on the spider 9 is a waste and a HP30 will do the same job but doesn’t that custom 9 front end look sweet! I can always cut the inner C’s off and go 1 ton later.

I think this setup should provide a good and almost bullet proof setup for 35’s

The used HP60 rear axle I got was standard TJ width and I already had the wheels with 3.75 back spacing.

actually, the AEV wheels are 3.5" backspace and since they're 8.5" wide they'll act like their 3" backspace compared to other 8" wheels

im interested to see what those are going to look like on your jeep as i cant make up my mind whether to get the argent or the bright silver wheels. being my jeep is bright silver metallic i tend to lean more towards the idea of getting silver.

This is the way I understand the backspacing on the AEV wheels.

The 8.5” wide AEV wheels having 3.6" backspacing and will act like an 8” wheel with 3.6 backspacing. The inner tire bead still sits 3.6 inches from the wheel mounting surface. The outer bead will sit .5 inches father out than an 8” wheel but the tire is wider than the wheel so the tire should stick out the same distance past the fender flare no matter if it is a 8.5” or 8” wheel.
