Gauge cluster

Is there some type of aftermarket gauge cluster for the TJ. I HATE the stock one.

i've thought about fabbing one up out of aluminum sheet or something with Auto Meter guages. i think it would look nice, but the only thing would be keeping the odometer correct and in the cluster. i think it would look a lot better and be more functional. if you build one or buy one, post on here and let us know

i had a write up of using all auto meter gauges but decided to change my mind as all the guages and sending units would set you back $500+

not to mention there are assorted electronics in the cluster that you might need, and all the warning lights and stuff.

The best you realistically do is face overlays. (mine are silver) There's quite a few types. try eBay.

If you use overlays can you post a pic of it. I know there was a thread some time back about changing the color of the backlighting and that was pretty cool.

Changing the color of the backlighting is just changing bulbs or installing colored bulb covers. limited effectiveness since the color is molded into the plastic face, but it does change it.

overlays (note that there are two styles, they changed at some point, must get the correct ones)

I had to change my gauges because of my V8 swap. It's not worth it if you don't have to.

I didn't look to see what year your jeep is but a tons of circuits in my jeep are routed through the instrument panel logic board. You could do it - but you will have to re-wire a bunch of crap if you want it to work the same way.

I ended up having Dakota Digital make me a new gauge panel and I like it a lot. I'm not a big fan of all digital gauges but it was the quickest, easiest for me to get back on the road.

White/Glo overlay

I pick up my jeep on Saturday. I already purchased these, and they will be one of my first mods:

I will post pics once I get them in. Hopefully next week sometime.

I've got the same ones right now. They may be a little bit "ricer" but I actually like them. Much more so than the crappy stock gauges. After seeing that thread on here about the different coloured LEDs for the dash, I might go that route when I get tired of this option. The only downside is being Canadian, they are in MPH not KPH in the large numbers, but I've gotten used to it.

Here's few pics I just snapped, it's not dark enough to get a really good lit up one yet:

Yeah I saw those on ebay, at one point they had a carbon fiber looking overlay on there that would cover up all of the white except where the acutal gaguges and lights are at. I thing that would have looked really cool. I tried to find one on there but none are up right now.

I was leaning more towards the gauge cluster. Not the carbon fiber overlay
