Fumoto engine oil drain valve

Has anyone ever bought one of these Fumoto drain plug valve write up? Seemed like a pretty good idea, I have a skid plate under my oil pan and its a pain to change the oil.

I have it and like it a lot. It does take longer to drain, but I usually rotate the tires when it is draining. Works great for about a year now.

I was looking at buying something like this. I made a skid plate, and while I can undo the drain plug just fine, at the end of the drain cycle it runs onto the skid and makes a big mess.
However from the pictures, it looks like this sticks down further and may catch on rocks and such. My skid fits only 1/8-1/4 inch below the pan.

Any input from someone that has one on how far down it projects?
thanks

Don't use a fumoto unless you have engine/oil pan protection.

It doesn't really hang down any lower than my oil pan. I use tubing from Lowe's to drain it directly into the pan w/o getting anything on the skid (until I remove the filter).

I have one but didn't really like it so I went back to the normal drain plug. The skid gets messy when removing the filter anyways.

I was thinking that one of those remote oil filter kits could save the oil on the skidplate mess?

Anyone try this?

I agree...a remote oil filter would help.

There is also the Fram Sure Drain which is somewhat similar but less than half the cost.

I was considering one of them also, because of the problem with the skid plate. I decided to just drop the skid each oil change since the skid could usually use a few whacks with a big hammer to make it flatter by then anyway....

It's only $25 bucks, to me it's jsut plain quicker, get the one with the nipple, you can attach a piece of 3/8" ID tube to the nipple open it up and it goes right into your container, no need for an oil pan, I just save my old jugs and drop it off at the local Midas. Did I say jugs and nipple? , by the time you would drop your engine skid, you will be done with the chage, 1/4" skids don't need any whacks

I've heard of people using a plastic grocery bag and removing the filter from the top and letting the filter and oil just fall into it. I'm going to try this next time around and see if it helps at all.

Does anyone know why this kit that says it's for 81-03s would not fit an 06 TJ?
