It'd be nice under a Skid Row or other engine skid where it's hard to reach and well protected, but under something like my close-fitting Tera skid I don't imagine it'd last long on the rocks... even my stock drain plug has a flat spot where one of the corners has been ground off.

I have a different one. It has no valve on it so it's not as bulky, I got it at autozone. It has a tube that pushes into the plug and allows it to open. I just keep the tube in the glove box.

I have one and like it alot. I probably wouldn't recommend it unless its covered by a skid plate.

Would it be safe without a skid plate if a person didn't do any off-roading?

Have one similar, I think it's made by Fram. Replaces the drain plug with an internal spring valve. You screw a short section of plastic line onto it that opens the internal valve. Has a cap to cover the threads when not in use. I don't think it sticks down as far as the fumoto.

Heres a link for a better idea. I think I found mine at Wally world or autozone.

I installed a Fumoto valve and now consider it to have been a waste of money. First, it has such a small diameter drain hole and tube that it takes too long to drain the crank case. Second, it doesn't really cure the messiest part of the oil change process which is removing the old oil filter. I'm no longer a fan of the Fumoto valve, it just doesn't help all that much... and it sure slows the draining process way down. I start the drain process and then start on the oil filter change. By the time I have completed the oil filter swap process, the crank case is still not done draining through that Fumoto valve.

Getting messy is half the fun......... Besides, not a fan of things hanging down any farther than they have to,....unless you have a skid plate.

If you have an engine skid it certainly helps from oil collecting in it when you change the oil if you attach a piece of tubing to the nipple (3/8"I believe). It is a little slow, but I set it up with the tube draining into an old oil container, then check a few things to see if they loosened up, may add an extra 5-10 minutes, I just use that as inspection time underneath. With the Medic skid, it would be a real PITA without, it is above the skid so not subject to rocks.

Is the drain tube included? If not, what diameter tube do you need? Thanks!
