Do yall lock your full doors if you have a softtop on? i know soft doors = don't lock. Just want opinions!

I just got back into a new ride but when i had my old Jeep I followed a simple rule.
If I could see it from where I am sitting, I lock the doors. If I can't, I leave it them open and don't leave anything in it I am not willing to lose. Cds being a great example. CD writers make keeping "losable" CDs in the Jeep a pretty cheap way not to lose anything important. Know that sounds backwards but if I cannot do something about it, I may as well save the top and windows.

Soft top on, means no lock, but alarm on so if they climb in it goes off unexpectedly.
No top, usually means no doors, but I still arm the alarm for the same reason I listed above. I have to admit that since I got the Tuffy Console Insert, everything goes in there and I don't even worry about it. gritz

never lock a soft top. all that means is you will still lose your stuff and your top too.

To answer your specific question about full hard doors and soft top....
I lock with my full hard doors and soft top all the time. I have the alarm set and everything too. I also use a "club" when in less savory neighborhoods. My intent is to make breaking into my jeep more of a hassle than the vehical next to it. reality is though, if they want in, they'll get in no matter what you do with the soft top/doors/locks/alarms/consoles etc. I refuse to make it any quicker or easier for them. If i can, i park next to another jeep. chances are, they follow all the other advise being given here and leave their's wide open, which would you go for? |

I never lock my jeep. I would rather my CDs get stolen than the soft top slashed.

Unlocked all the time. I'd rather have them get in by opening the door than cutting the top. And if they open the door, they trip the alarm. Get yourself some lockable storage from Tuffy. I have the glovebox, and I dont worry about anything I keep in there.

Well, since it really is my dad's Jeep, I have to listen to him. He wants me to lock it, so I do. I would prefer a Tuffy counsol for peace of mind, but he pays for it so its up to him. I live in a decent area though, so I just hope for the best.

No lock
If some a-hole is going to go rummaging through my Jeep to steal something, I'd rather he get right in and bypass doing additional damage to my top.

I never lock my doors. Just gives people a reason to slice the soft top to get in. Just alarm it and get a lockable center consol for your radio. I have the tuffy one. Works great. If someone wants to spend the time to get that open they can have my radio. Rule of thumb, never leave anything of value in a jeep.

i don't see a point in locking the doors when you have a soft top. the top is plastic and unzips from the outside, it's not remotely secure.
when i first got my jeep and had it at school with me, i thought it was smart to lock the doors. people broke in three times, each time pulling away the side window or unzipping the window completely (luckily never cutting or ripping anything important). now i leave the doors unlocked and either people have stopped breaking in, or they are nice about it and shut the doors afterwards. it was always a pain walking to my jeep the next day and wondering, is it intact? are the windows on, or are they on the ground nearby? so yea, don't lock doors, pointless to do so. you'll just be causing yourself extra worries and more repairs. |

Everything is locked in the insta-trunk, so the console and glovebox are kept empty and unlocked. The only thing someone could get are the floormats and if they needem that bad, they can have em. I actually like being able to keep the doors unlocked, much quicker to get into and no reaching over to unlock the passenger side for a "guest".

I have a soft top w/halves but always lock the doors. There's nothing valuable inside and I could care less about my top and doors, I just don't want my Jeep stolen.
