Front End wobble
After having my RC 2.5" lift installed for about a year now, I have been noticing I am getting steering wobble between 45-50MP/h. Also when braking between these speeds I get steering wobble. I have checked all of the steering linkage. All seems to be fine. I just rotated my tires but no luck with that either. I am debating whether to just go ahead and order an adjustable trackbar, but not sure it will fix my problem. Any thoughts?
Also am planning on installing a 3/4" spacer to lift up to 3.25", but I was thinking about going with OME shocks. Anyone know if I installed the 3.5" lift shocks from OME would they fit the 3.25" RC lift? When I install the lift this is what I plan to change. Front Quick Discos Extended Rear Sway Bar Links Front Adjustable Trackbar OME Steering Stabilizer Rear trackbar bracket 33x12.50 cooper discoverer stt anything else i would need?

I did have the front end aligned the day after i installed the lift, and i had the stabilizer changed as well. I installed the Pro Comp ES3000, but will most likely swap it out after I install the spacers and new tires because i hear it cant handle larger tires well. So im gonna go with an ome one.

would i need to get it aligned again? I had it aligned after i installed the lift. tire pressure on all tires was at about 30psi. i will still have to check the track bar hole.

It's none of that. I went through it. Spend the bucks if you want but it's not 'wobble', it's DRIBBLE! Get your tires BALANCED! Think about it. If the 'wobble' doesn't stop when you hit the brakes, then it's vertical, not horizontal movement.

Depends on how much tread you have left. I was within 10k of discard. It cost me $32 to balance the two fronts. Then I held my breath as I approached 57 mph on the highway. Nothing happened. So I drove another 7,000 b4 I replaced them. I had 'wobbled' the last 10k miles and avoided the 55-60 mph range so I drove 7k more at ~57 just to get even. Grrr....
Don't worry, I'd already replaced the steering dampner, the brake pads, had it at Medley's for $300 worth of tweaks and was looking at the other stuff in these threads when someone posted that they bought new tires and it went away. Bingo. |

Mine is an '04 Rubicon. Factory stock suspension, no lift. Nothing. Tires were Pep Boys brand A/T's (after 39k on the Wranglers). Load range 'C'.
If your vehicle had 'A' frames you'd never notice the dribble, but because Jeep has a straight axle the slightest imbalance is magnified at a given speed. Mine was 57-58 mph. Post back here and let everyone know your results. That 'death wobble' was a nightmare for months until I got the fix. I only post b/c I started through the progression of replacement parts before I finally put 2 and 2 together. I was frustrated like everyone else. $32 was awfully cheap considering where I was headed, and after $500 worh of guesses. Good luck, and let everyone know no matter how it works out! ARF! |
